Pours golden yellow, slightly hazy with very small white head. Carbonation appears slightly low. The head sticks around despite it's size, and the lacing is quite sticky.
Smell is quite amazing. Tart apples, farmy brett, slightly cheesy, musty, with an underlying bready malt. Coriander, mild black pepper, and citrus (but not from hops), lots of fruit. Little to no hop aroma.
Taste begins with juicy tartness rounded off with bready malts. Tartness is at the forefront with funk right behind it. Despite the age, there are hints of spicy noble hop bitterness. Small amount of phenolics and spicy warming alcohol.
Medium carbonation but extremely dry. Not quite mouth puckeringly sour, but solidly tart. Very drinkable.
Probably my favorite from Jolly Pumpkin so far. I prefer this aged bottle to on tap, though on tap, it can be quite refreshing.

So excited to finally have Jolly Pumpkin on Texas beer shelves. Texas is quickly becoming an amazing state for beer. Starting things off with the Oro de Calabaza. Poured into my snifter. Oro is bright, but hazed, gold. Things are topped off by a finger or so off off white head. Head falls to a ring somewhat quickly.
The aroma is inviting. A hefty sour funk hits first. Tart fruits – apples, pears, sour cherries, and lemons stand out. Sweet caramel hits next. Light spice and bubblegum notes round out the nose.
Flavor is no less impressive. Plenty of funk hits first. Slightly earthy, sour lemons stand out. Tart pome fruits pop next. Sweet bubblegum notes stand out. Peppery spice rounds things out. Lemon notes linger on in the finish. The finish is tart and drying, encouraging one to take another sip.
Oro is light bodied. The carbonation makes for an effervescent and refreshing brew.
Oro de Calabaza is a great beer. You must love funk to enjoy this beer. The 8% ABV is almost non existent, making this quite a refreshing brew on a hot summers night. If Oro de Calabaza is indicative of what of Jolly Pumpkin has to offer, I can hardly what to try their other brews.
