Batch 1158 Bottled 2-14-13
A: pours a cloudy/hazy yellow with about a fingers worth of snow white head formation. moderate carbonation
S: funk right up front with a nice dose of orange peel and lemon zest citrus. the oak casks are evident and it has a slight pepper quality to it.
T: the pepper and spices really come out here and is the main player of the brew. the funky presence makes for an interesting compliment to the spices. secondary notes include mild citrus, subtle oak and slight touch of tartness and vinegar in the finish.
M: solid medium bodied. leaves a nice tartness on the palate along with a subtle oakiness and a touch of funk.
O: another solid brew by Jolly . the pepper, spices and barnyard funk here creates a nice uniqueness definitely worthy of a try.

A creamy yellow-tinted head condenses to about one finger of rocky froth, which sits on top of a thick, bright but translucent light-medium orange brew. Retention is good, and patchy deposits of lacing are left behind in plenty.
Along with plenty of fruity esters, dark fruits offering both sweetness and tartness, the nose brings some toast and earth. Yeast character is evident and bold without dominating. There's some light funk and a bit of woodiness on the end, while a touch of leaf lingers all the while.
Musty funk isn't overplayed but sets the stage very well. Dark fruits bring the tartness as well as a deeper overripe sweetness, while some softer pale fruits add another dimension. A bit of lemon zest balances off a gentle spiciness. Hops are light but register well, bringing a bit of flora and leaf. Otherwise, it's strongly earthy with a woody dryness underneath for even more balance and complexity.
It's smooth, a bit of movement from carbonation adding just enough crispness as well. The body is a good medium.
