A- Pours a slightly hazy yellow-orange with an adequate white head. Some floaties, but it's bottle-conditioned so I'll blame myself for not pouring it well.
S- Very spicy; not really coriander as I'd expect from a Wit; grains of paradise possibly? [Side note: after looking up the Jolly Pumpkin webpage I learned it is indeed coriander; go figure...] Also a strong sour apple note. Not picking up any orange peel.
T- The sour funk of brettomyces predominates. I'll be the first to admit I'm not a huge brett fan, but I can appreciate it where appropriate (e.g. Rodenbach Grand Cru). That being said, it's not part of a traditional Witbier profile, and the only hint of such flavors from the bottle description is the fact that it's aged in an oak barrel. If Jolly Pumpkin had warned me of the strong brett character, I could have avoided this. That being said, there's simply nothing about this beer that says "Witbier." No orange flavor. No coriander flavor. And while a slight lactic tang is appropriate, that's quite different from the funky, earthly sourness found in this beer. I'm sure plenty of Belgian beer folks love this beer and I have no problem with Jolly Pumpkin for brewing this, but don't call it a Witbier.
M- Light and effervescent.
D- Maybe if you're into wild fermentation you'd down several of these, but I'll be lucky if I get through this one bottle.

Screw everything you've heard about this beer. It's a witbier so fine, it very close to a wine in character. Paid nearly $9 for the bottle, and saved for a special occasion. It's a food beer. Three of us enjoyed it with a fried walleye. Nothing could've been better. We all agreed it was a delicious accompaniment. Keep that in mind when you sip this: enjoy every taste. It's one of the best beers I've ever enjoyed. "Good" my eye: it's top dog.

Large bottle picked up from the LCBO (bottled 21/1/14) and poured into a tulip, my first beer from Jolly Pumpkin and marking my 800th review here. Hoped this would suit the occasion. This bottle was a crazy gusher as I've heard others have found with this batch, a bit disappointing but after the head settled down a bit we had an attractive looking cloudy blonde gold beer with pretty impressive lacing.

S - funky tartness, some of the orange peel comes through with some lactic barrel character. Gooseberry, lime, a complex tart and mildly acetic character, refreshing and decently complex. Powerfully Brett forward as it settles. full and complex.

T - Starts with more lime and white grape notes, refreshing acidity to it. Pick up some interesting yeast interplay, tartness and some subtle vanilla, along with a herbal/floral aspect. Wheat character is pretty apparent with a creamy base for the tart notes of lychee and kiwi to stand, ends a bit more dry and coriander. Finish is really crisp with a lingering brett character that commands a following sip.

M - A quenching beer for sure, it stays quite light on the palate while delivering on all flavour aspects, and a refreshing tart acidity and a delicate finish, sourness is at a noticeable, tasty but thoroughly manageable level, it does form a significant aspect of the beer but the integration is done quite nicely. Sessionable and refreshing definitely.

A refreshing and balanced wit, maintains the lightness and refreshing spice of a traditional wit while packing some interesting barrel and Brett acidity and tart character. I thought aside from the gush on the open this was a well put together beer, noticeable tart lime and gooseberry flavours along the coriander and citric orange. A bit yeast forward at the start but it flows nicely into the spicy and tart fruit body, I enjoyed the concept and beer, certainly one I would recommend for fans of Brett as well as to have myself again.

750 ml bottle served fairly cold into glassware. Purchased from LCBO for $9.20 CDN. Here's hoping this wit is worth it.

Appearance - even a gentle pour yielded inches of white froth resting delicately upon a light and hazy golden beer with just a few orange hues. Incredible lacing left behind and the frothy white head lasts for a good long while. Spectacular looking beer.

Smell - big fruit nose combined with some Belgian yeasts, more similar to smell to a saison than a traditional wit. Quite fruity with some peach and pear as well as some spiciness.

Taste - light and tangy with a healthy helping of Belgian yeast, with some bitterness that comes through with some peach and pear flavor. Some earthiness as well. Tasty but to me this is closer to a low ABV saison than a wit. Quite a bit of orange flavor in this as well.

Mouthfeel - very lively carbonation, smooth feel and dry vinous finish.

Overall - certainly tasty and worth trying especially if you are a saison or wit fan but for the price I will probably pass on this next time.

750ml bottle into nonic pint. bottled on january 21, 2014. consumed on july 25, 2014

a: fully cloudy pale yellow. three fingers of frothy, bubbly, web-like head

s: a nice banana scent up front, then oak, spices, pineapple, lemon, and sour funk

t: tart lemon, wheaty malt, orange, funk, pineapple, oak, coriander, and banana, in that order. has a really dry finish with lingering oak, malt, and slight funk flavours

m: really harsh carbonation right when it hits the tongue, could be toned down a bit. light-bodied

o: a tasty and complex beer with lots of interesting flavours. finishes a bit too dry and i'm not a fan of the bubbly mouthfeel, but other than that, great stuff
