Batch 784/785 - Bottled April 27, 2011
A - The appearance of this is quite nice. Light golden yellow with about half an inch of creamy white head with excellent retention. Has a constant stream of carbonation coming up the centre of the glass, even 15 minutes after pouring. Sticky lacing lines the glass. Looks great.
S - Mostly a yeast aroma, with a hint of spice and perhaps some sourness. Nothing much to note, definitely the weakest point.
T - Not what I'd expected. The yeast has a subdued spiciness that really comes through in the finish, has an almost peppery/nutmeg character to it. The taste is pretty dormant and requires a good amount of swishing to unlock all of the layers, which results in a burst of flavours. The funk becomes quite pronounced, with that hard to describe tartness to it. Very dry and clean finish.
M/D - High carbonation produces a light body. I quite like the mouthfeel of this, not too dry, no lingering stickiness or sweetness.
O - I am actually really pleased with this beer. It's an all around enjoyable beer, the carbonation and palate are quite solid. I had their Luciernaga, The Firefly and wasn't blown away. The owner who I bought this from was raving about the different layers, so I gave them a try. It's making me wonder if I possibly got a bad batch of The Firefly. I'll have to retry it sometime.
