Batch 589, bottled 7/16/10.
A: Pours a hazy yellow with a lush, three finger head. Large bubbles diminish retention, but there's some very pretty webbing as the head recedes. The body effervesces with fine streaks of carbonation throughout.
S: A little bit sour, and almost sweaty, in that nice wild sort of way. A little bit of tart fruit, maybe apple, and some wheaty, bready scents. Any hops scent is lost in the funk.
T: My mouth puckered nicely with the first sip. There's a good funk flavor at the finish, but that's about it. Not a lot of interesting grain flavor behind the tartness and barnyard sensations. There's a bit of a grainy, vaguely Belgian malt characteristic in the very tail end of the taste, but it's subtle and lost in the funkiness. Still, pretty tasty.
M: A little bit watery, but just enough carbonation to rescue it from utter flatness.
D: If you like the style, this is probably more legitimate than many American attempts. Still, nothing like Fantome, or DuPont. I adore the style, and will have no trouble finishing this big bottle, but it's just about average for the style, I think.
