Bottled on 5/14/2013, batch 71. Poured into goblet.
A-Frothy off white foamy head. Two fingers width. Tremendous lacing with good retention left on the glass. Dark mahogany body with heavy carbonation breakout at nucleation sites.
S-Aroma is saison-esqu for sure with some mustiness thrown in. Very faint the smell. Peppery dark chocolate and roasted notes are subtle.
T-The taste seems to be a little watered down. Wish it had more pronounced flavors. For me not as exciting as the aroma was. Cocoa, hints of coffee bean, roasted malts and a nice subtle tartness round out the flavor profile.
M-On the thinner side for a dark beer. Highly carbonated. Dry finish.
O-A good dark saison. Saisons are one of my favorite styles and this is an good easy drinking representation of the saison with a dark twist. Just wish the taste was more pronounced. To faint/watery for a higher rating but a highly drinkable beer none the less. This could be very good if they just get those flavors to pop out and not be masked.
