Poured from a capped 750 mL bottle into a Brewer's Art goblet. Moderate hand. Sticker reads, Batch 1130. Bottled 07-09-2012.

A: Dark, amber-brown body. 1.5 fingers of rocky, off-white head with good retention. Nice lacing.

S: Musty brett, earth. Raisin, cherry. Lemon. Some citric, lactic acid. Hay. Slightest hint of dark chocolate.

T: Mild sourness and earthy funk up front. A subdued roasted malt appears with a light nuttiness, tang and a bit of chocolate. A touch of hops, but minimal bitterness. Finishes quite dryly, regardless. Slightly metallic in the aftertaste. Minimal alcohol presence.

M: Moderate to high carbonation with medium body. Feels richer on the palate than the flavors convey.

O: Not sure how 2.5 years have affected this one. Didn't realize the shelf age when I picked it up. Feels a bit hollow. The funk and sour notes are quite nice, but the malt and hops seem faded. I'll have to run this one back.

Served in a snifter from the bomber (?).

The head is a bit out of control. Surges out like a homebrew.

After multiple pours I finally get what looks like a normal pour. Fluffy, light and airy, pale and off-colored white head. The body is opaque, dark brown with visible trickles of carbonation. 3.25

Lots of tartness bordering on sourness on the aroma, plus an overall funk. Bright floral, lemony and acidic notes. Darker malt notes lurk beneath begging to be noticed. 4

Taste picks up on the nose, funky, tarty, lemony and peppery. Chocolatey malts bubble to the surface and give a new dimension to the beer. The flavors are nice but on the lighter side rather than being aggressive. 3.75

It's an interesting medley of sensations that constitute this beer, funky, tart, earthy, and a speck of acidity. The body is light and bubbly with a dry finish. 3.75

Unique so that's a plus. Quite the mix of tastes and feels. Enjoyable but it doesn't quite make me fall in love.

Batch 842 dated 7-12-2011 poured into a GPBF tulip.

A: medium brown, coca cola appearance. Thin white head lingers for a while then dissipates.

S:nothing intense, light roast and cocoa, definitive sour notes which is to be expected from a JP beer aged this long. No funk to speak of

T: light and watery, sour dominates though it's not a very sour beer. Thin roast and chocolate notes accompany a semi dry finish with a lingering sourness.

O: not bad, but dissapointing. It's sour but not terribly complex and theres not enough "dark" character to balanace . After aging for this long I probably built up my expectations too high. It's cool to see how JP beers developed with 3 plus years of age though.

Where: In my apartment
Other notes: Bottled 3/2013. Poured into pint glass from 25.4oz bottle. Crazy carbonation overflow upons opening the bottle

Appearance - 3/5
Pours a dark hazy red-brown color. The carbonation was crazy in this bottle, so it't hard to tell what the head for this bear would normally be like. Very hazy, but you can still see some of the carbonation bubbling up through the brew if you hold the brew up to a light.

Smell - 3.75/5
Classic JP tart smell. Smells of sour apples, lemons, maybe some cherry. I do love the JP style, but there is nothing to the smell that really sets this apart from their other beers.

Taste - 4/5
A combination of bready and tart tastes. The tartness in this brew does not seem as strong as other JP brews. The tartness tastes like the smell (sour apples, lemon, cherries). Quite sweet, with a tiny bit of spiciness. Overall a good taste if you like tart beers. But again, nothing in this brew taste-wise which sets it apart from other JP brews.

Mouthfeel - 3.75/5
Medium body, quite smooth, a little bit creamy. A strong carbonation presence.

Overall - 3.5/5
I do love the JP sour taste, which this beer has, however the sour taste seems to be weaker in this beer, and there is really nothing else which improves on any other JP beer.
