Pours a clear gold color. 1/5 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and poor lacing. Smells of apple, sourness, hint of hop, hint of yeast, hint of wheat, and strong floral. Fits the style of a Saison / Farmhouse Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sourness, apple, hint of hops, strong yeast, hint of wheat, and slight floral. Overall, poor appearance, decent aroma, decent body, and good blend.

Other notes: Bottle says Batch 106, 108, 115, 116, 118, 120. The bottled date is 07/03/13. I just picked it up yesterday at the local shop, so it probably has been sitting on the shelf for a whole year at room temperature. Seeing as this is a lighter ABV beer, that's definitely a risk. But I haven't seen this beer in a shop before, so I decided to take the risk.

Appearance - 4.5/5
Crazy carbonation overflow on opening. I find this happens with a lot of JP beers. Not sure if there is some way they can change things to avoid this. After pouring though, I didn't really have an issue with the carbonation. Pours a very hazy golden orange. Extremely minimal head retention. I like the color and the haziness. It's a very classic beer look, and it's pulled off perfectly, making the beer look really good. Perhaps the only thing I would have improved would be to add more head retention. I like a little bit of foam sitting at the top of the beer.

Smell - 4.5/5
Strong JP tart smell. Apples, cherries, and other tart fruitiness. Perhaps I can smell a little bit of the hefeweizen aspect as well (wheaty?). Also, a bit of spiciness is smelled as well. The tart smell is very powerful though, perhaps the strongest I remember from any JP beer.

Taste - 4.2/5
Tart apples, cherries, lemons, citrus, other tart fruitiness. A subtle spiciness/breadiness The taste seems somewhat diluted compared to other JP beers, and compared to the smell. Although I think perhaps the 'dilutedness' I detect is just due to the fact that this is a much lighter beer. Still, given the strength of the smell, I was expecting the flavor to be stronger than it is. The tart fruit flavor lingers on your throat for a bit after you swallow--the length of the aftertaste is nice touch which I don't remember from other JP beers.

Mouthfeel - 4/5
The beer has a very light body. It is very smooth and it moves easily around the mouth and down the throat. The carbonation is on the lighter side, but I feel that this pairs very well with the light body of the beer.

Overall - 4.1/5
Overall, this was a good JP beer which is very similar in taste to their other tart beers, however this beer is much lighter in body and mouthfeel than the other beers. There definitely could be times where one wants to drink a beer with a lighter feel, and if one also wants something sour, this would be a great choice for that scenario. So overall this was a good lighter variation on the classic JP taste.
