Poured from caged and corked 750ml bottle. Thanks go out to VinnieVanGogh for kind of sharing this bottle (or should I say wife).
A- Pours a light hazed golden yellow with a darker orange burntness to it. Three finger white head shows excellent retention like most JP beers. Huge chunks of lace with sheety style lacing combine on the sides of the glass.
S- An interesting aroma for a pumpkin beer. There is a underlying barnyard funk on the underbody of the aroma. Tart apples and lemon peel are two of the bigger aromas throughout the entire aroma. Hints of light nutmeg and pumpkin show up in the ending after the beer warms up. The funk overall gives a nice wild ale quality to this beer.
T- This beer like the aroma is weird and not really a pumpkin ale. Barnyard funk right in the front mixes along with a little pale malt. Soured apples and lemon peel mixes in the middle of the beer along with a hint of funk. Pumpkin and light nutmeg spices really only come through in hints toward the ending. This is only when the beer warms though when the pumpkin and spices come through. Alcohol and one last funk upshoot comes in the tailend of the beer finishing this one up.
M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is a little high for the beer I thought. Tons of funk with soured fruit are left on the palate. Aftertaste is mostly high alcohol, funk, and hints of pumpkin. Flavors were funk forward which I always expect from JP beers. No off flavors were present but the funk at times overtook the other flavors. High alcohol drying on the palate with each sip.
O- Jolly Pumpkin makes a good beer..almost always. This beer was good but there was almost no pumpkin quality to this. This of course doesn't say I didn't like it but I just wish there was a little more pumpkin to it. A nice beer in its own just not quite to the style I thought it should be.
