Enjoyed on 3/25. Reviewed from notes.
This is the first Jolly Pumpkin I've had without a dog on the label.
This spicy Saison is a beautiful ruby red color with a big, tufty white head. Lacing is sticky with a nice punch of carbonation. The look is fruitier than you'd expected for the style. I don't really know what to expect, and I like that.
Aroma is very bretty and dry with a slight hint of wheat and a tart lemon quality. Some floral notes peak out (rose hips, chamomile, dandelion), but it maintains a lightness which is quite appealing.
The taste is spritzy and dry with a floral, almost tea like conclusion. Lemon and some banana are accompanied by a potpurri-esque floral quality which opens pleasantly, but becomes more and more medicinal as the beer warms. Your reaction to this one will depend on your tolerance for the floral notes.
Mouth wise, the wheat adds a nice creaminess, which combats some of the dryness and limits the amount of unpleasant resonance.
It's an original take on the Saison and it tastes good, but it's probably not a repeat performer, since the floral notes can be a shade off.
