A: A hazy, medium copper ale with a fairly deep red hue. The persistent head pours with about a finger of rocky, ecru colored head tinted with a touch of red that leaves some thick ropes of lacing on the glass.

S: Aromas of brett and hibiscus a prominent along with some light fruit aromas. A fruity and herbal nose backed by a solid barnyard funk. There is a light spicy hops note, a slight oak character when it warms and little malt character.

T: A firm tartness with a citrus zest bitterness dominates giving the impression of equal parts brett, rose hips and hibiscus contributing the funky bitterness. The balance is firmly bitter with a There is a soft malt character in the front and middle but it ends fairly dry with an aftertaste of herbal and citrus peel-like bitterness.

M: A fluffy medium light bodied beer with a strong level of carbonation that gets just a little prickle on the tip of the tongue.

O: The saison base is exceptional on it's own with a some sourness and barrel character but I really like is the interaction of flavors between the hibiscus and rose hips when added to a soured beer. Jolly Pumpkin beers are always a treat and this one is right up there with their best; thanks Dude!

Very large deviation on the rating but one of the best (if not THE best) non-sour/brett saisons I've ever had and that deserves a high rating in my book.

Other notes: Batch 304,306. Bottled on 02/12/14.

Appearance - 4/5
High carbonation upon opening. Took a while to pour the glass because the foam would build up quick and then I'd have to wait for it to die down before pouring more.
Pours a deep orange-red. The color is beautiful, not sure if I've seen such a vibrant shade of this particular color before (in a beer). A little hazy, hard to see through it, but you can a little if you hold it up to a bright light. After the crazy carbonation dies down, the head is minimal.

Smell - 4/5
My initial whiff consisted of beer/alcohol smell, tartiness (the same tartness flavor that other JP beers have). Fruitiness as well, maybe cherries and sour apples. Maybe a little bit of floral smell (bottle says beer brewed with rose hips, rose petals, and hibiscus

Taste - 4.2/5
Jolly Pumpkin fruity-tartness flavor, though toned down a bit perhaps. It's fairly sweet. I would say the beer has a juicy feel to it. There's also some saison spicy taste. Overall the flavor is quite nice

Mouthfeel - 4.35/5
The carbonation is not too strong, just the right level for this beer. In between crisp and creamy. The beer is fairly smooth. As I said above, the beer has a juicy feel to it, at least that's the way I would describe it, but it's hard to describe. But I like the feel.

Overall - 4/5
Overall, this was quite a good beer. It wasn't really floral tasting as I was expecting due to the rose petals, rose hips, and hibiscus. Perhaps I'm just not refined enough to taste those flavors (what does a rose taste/smell like anyway?). The nice color and mouthfeel combined together to make an overall good drinking experience.

Weighting: Appearance 15%, Smell 15%, Taste 35%, Mouthfeel 15%, Overall 20%
