750mL bottle poured into tulip - thanks to erikkoppin

Pours softly hazed, reddish color with mahogany hues. Thin wisp of head fades into thin film and a collar of lacing.

Funky, fruity and sour notes in the nose. Touches of cherry, pineapple and tropical fruit with residual fruit sugar sweetness.

Bite of fruit-driven sourness up front with cherry and pineapple. Tropical tones with fruit juice and a touch of oaked wine. Softly funky yeast, mild backbone with bready malts. Continuing sourness on the back end during the dry finish.

Medium body, well carbonated, bubbly and dry on the tongue. Quality fruit-based wild ale from JP and Maui which still contains the familiar funky/sour combo I've come to expect from JP while adding a fun tropical sour twist.

From 12/29/12 notes. Thanks to jslot38 for sharing this one. Believe the sticker said batch 2.

a - Pours a hazy amber-orange color with one inch of off white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of funk, sour cherries, earthy notes, spice, dark fruity malts, some oak, some vinegar. Tart and funky; nose is quite nice...has that Jolly Pumpkin funk to it.

t - Tastes of tart cherries, sour dark fruits, funk, oak, earthy notes, vinegar, yeast, some spice. More sour fruit than funk here.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Acedic.

o - Overall a very good sour from JP. Nice funk in the nose and sour, tart cherries throughout it. Would definitely have it again.

Bottle shared thanks to Justin, thanks man.

Th beer pours a nice reddish amber hue with a ring of white head and a bit of lacing. The smell has a nice earthy and yeasty mix of aromas, a definite sour tart fruit note of the berry variety, mostly cherry. Definitely some nice vanilla oak aromas.

The taste has flutters of the smell but it seems to come out a bit less tasty than I hoped, it has this sweet corn sort of flavor that dulls the fruit and tart flavors, although there is a nice tartness and yeast flavor overall. Cherry juice certain,y is noticeable and adds a nice note to the beer. Still a tasty beer but they have better ones.

The feel is good, decent carbonation and medium in body. Overall a nice drinkable wild, not overly sour but has a good flavor profile and smell.

Pours a hazy deep orange-ish color with an off white head. In the aroma, a dry, dark cherry fruitiness. In the taste, dryer, big dark cherry fruitiness. A small cherry like bite and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry cherry flavor in the aftertaste. Huge cherry presence, expecting a bit more sour, but nice nonetheless.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/8/2012. Pours lightly hazy orange amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Good spotty soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big sour cherry, apple, oak, hay, grass, earth, pepper, clove, light vinegar, leather, barnyard funk, and yeast spiciness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance; nicely funky. Taste of tart cherry, apple, hay, grass, oak, pepper, clove, leather, light vinegar, funk, earth, and yeast spiciness. Light earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour cherry, apple, pepper, hay, grass, leather, clove, earth, funk, oak, and yeast spiciness on the finish for a bit. Very nice flavor balance and complexity; with a nice balance of light acidity and yeast flavor complexity; zero cloying flavors on the finish; moderately dry on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly acidic and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with pretty much zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent wild ale brewed with fruit juice. Great overall flavor complexity and balance; and very smooth and crisp to sip on with the light acidity. I really enjoyed this one.

Big thanks to theeabyss for getting this out for us to try. Served in a Jolly Pumpkin tulip. Pours with a very nice cherry red hue and a fizzy off-white head that sticks around for a bit. The nose carries really excellent notes of passion fruit and cherry, with the former really standing out in all of its glory. Note to brewers: please use more passion fruit. Behind that is a touch of oak and that signature Jolly Pumpkin funk. Flavor has more cherry than the nose did, splitting the passion fruit and cherry evenly. Background funk and a touch of something almost vinous. Very light fruity acidity and dryness through the finish. So extremely drinkable. Big winner.

Thank you Alpineclimber!

Appearance. Pours a deep, lightly hazy red-amber with half a finger of off-white head.

Smell. Kumquats. persimons and pears. Lightly funky and a little floral. Interesting for sure.

Taste. Nicely sour and tart with flavours of persimons and kiwi along with some light tannic wood and just the slightest hint of fresh flowers. Only a bit of sweetness to offset the sour. Very nice and very drinkable.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with maybe just a little lower than medium, fine carbonation.

Overall. Very nice. Tastes of exotic fruits sets this apart from most, and not in a gimic sort of way. Well made, delicious, and easy drinking. Would be great on a hot summer day ...which it's not today.
