A: Cloudy dirty copper in color. Forms a moderate sized light tan head that reduces down to thin, patchy surface coating. Some light lacing.

S: Passion fruit and lots of it. Slightly tart, juicy, passion fruit.

T: Tart, yet quite juicy with a strong passion fruit flavor. Light caramel malt with a bit of toast, a little lemon, and just a hint of oak.

M: Medium bodied, tart-sour, juicy with medium carbonation.

O: Take my review for what it's worth since I'm admittedly not a huge sour fan, but while I enjoyed this, I wasn't blown away by it (on the other hand, my tasting partners thought it was excellent). I will admit it was a very nice blend of tart and juicy with lots of passion fruit, but virtually no cherry, flavors.

Thanks Brian. Batch 4, bottled 5/8/12.

A: Pours a murky iced tea color with reddish highlights. Almost no head is present, no lace.
S: Lightly tart smelling with notes of dry oak, light must, and tons of fruit, sweet berries, cherry skins, blackberries and passion fruit. Vinous smelling as well.
T: Not as well rounded as the nose. The oak is buttery, a bit greasy, and there is a good cherry skin fruit sourness in the finish. Good fruit but not as fruity as the nose. Oak could be drier.
M: Carbonation is rather low, medium-full body, greasy mouthfeel. Wish it was a little drier.
O: Great smell, everything else about the beer is average.

Pours a deep reddish amber from the bottle into tulip. Big creamy off white head that retains a bit for a sour. Big sour notes with tropical fruits, lots of cherries, and vinegar. BIG sour start, with lots of fruit. Mellows as it goes down without much lingering on the palate. Dry start to finish. Light and effervescent. A true sour first beer. Good stuff.

Thank you Alpineclimber!

Appearance. Pours a deep, lightly hazy red-amber with half a finger of off-white head.

Smell. Kumquats. persimons and pears. Lightly funky and a little floral. Interesting for sure.

Taste. Nicely sour and tart with flavours of persimons and kiwi along with some light tannic wood and just the slightest hint of fresh flowers. Only a bit of sweetness to offset the sour. Very nice and very drinkable.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with maybe just a little lower than medium, fine carbonation.

Overall. Very nice. Tastes of exotic fruits sets this apart from most, and not in a gimic sort of way. Well made, delicious, and easy drinking. Would be great on a hot summer day ...which it's not today.

The beer pours a cloudy amber with a thin halo of loose, off-white head that loosely laces. The nose is mild with sweet fruity notes and some funk. When the beer warms a bit there is some acetone that pushes through. The taste highlights the interesting fruit (similar to passion fruit?) used to make this sour, and is relatively tart and sweet, balanced, and drinkable like most of the other JP sours. There is sweetness upfront with an effervescent, tart, slightly dry finish. Not overly impressed. This is a tasty beer, but I'm not sure it was worth the hassle to snag this limited release

750 ml bottle, blend 5 bottled 5/9/12. Pours a hazy reddish amber with a small off white head that quickly goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is cherries and tropical fruit with some musty yeast and brett. Yum.

The flavor is tart acidic fruits (cherry, tropical fruit), some wood and some brett and sourness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, wow! Completely different and so much better than the Maui version. Love the sourness and brett and it brings out more fruits and complements them. A bit pricey at $20 a bottle though.
