12 oz bottle poured into a wine glass.

A - Pours a slightly dark amber. Great looking color, but little carbonation visible, and a very thin head.

S - Smelled Marzen-like to me. Dankness of a lager, earthy bitterness, slight hints of yeast and mild hops. Slight bit of smokiness as well. Very unique, and quite plesant.

T - Like the aroma, it's quite unique. Toasty malts and fermenty dankness (in a good way) up front. Slightly hoppy, with a Marzen-like aftertaste. The hint of smokiness is more prevalent in the taste, and it's a winner for me. This beer has a very unique taste, and is pretty darn solid.

F - Crisp, but slightly sticky. Would've preferred a bit more carbonation, as I like lagers to be carbed well. Certainly drinkable and leaves no unpleasant dryness or bloating feeling.

O - Saranac's seasonal beer are usually hit-or-miss for me. This beer sounded a little gimmicky, but I was pleasantly suprised. This is a very good beer. Good mild flavor, and most importantly, it's unique. Slight smokiness in a lager is something I've very rarely experienced, and it works hear. Mild, crisp, very pleasant taste and is very drinkable. Props to Saranac for making this unique brew. I recommend this beer and am looking forward to drinking the other one from their Fall sampler.

Amazing amber color with mild carbonation and decent head. Citrus with a hint of floral notes in the aroma. Really hoppy aroma. My first words were "Wait WHAT THE HECK?". This beer is all over the place. The floral hop flavor really comes through with some citrus and a bit of malt in the back. Too many different things in one beer. This beer is like the color grey. It doesn't know if it's white or black. We feel like there a lot of different components that each are great in their own right, but together are...something else.

Poured a deep amber hue with a two finger frothy white head. There was very good retention and sticky lacing.

The smell featured a potent herbal hop and earthy malt.

The taste was likewise earthy and herbal with a clean grainy caramel malt.

The mouthfeel was clean with a pleasant carbonation.

Overall a very tasty lager.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Best by March 31 2014.

A: Pours a clear deep amber ruby with a nice dense off white head. Leaves some good lacing on the sides of the glass. Average amount of visible carbonation.

S: Pleasant malty aroma that has both a graininess and a sweetness. Hops are noticeable in the background. This adds an earthiness to beer.

T: Pretty smooth beer that is hoppier than expected. Starts off with a malt sweetness that is overtaken by the bittering hops. Aftertaste is enjoyable and has earthy hop tones.

M: Medium body with somewhat low carbonation. Has a creamy smooth mouthfeel.

Overall its an enjoyable beer and a very nice lager. Wishing there was more than two in the mix pack.

Poured into a SA Perfect Pint glass (this beer was part of the Saranac Winter 12 pack).

A: A nice two finger head that dissipates leaving behind some nice lacing. The brew is a nice clear brown - very nice.

S: Nice malty aroma.

T: This has a nice but muted bitterness and another flavor I can't quite identify but is quite tasty.

M: Medium but pretty good for a lager

O: I really enjoyed Saranac's take on a hoppy lager. I'd like to see them offer this as a stand alone.
