T: peachy but with a ipa Hoppiness
F: medium carbonation
O: very fruity but tastes like it'd be a great summery beer

Smelt of peaches and pears. Gotta say I'm not one for Saranac but his one was a home run for me. Easy drinking and went down smooth.

Strong unique grapefruit like smell and taste. A lot of carbonation. Not smooth. Otherwise great flavor and aroma. No real great head. Thin layer of foam that doesn't retain on the glass. If the mouthfeel was smoother and slightly more round, it'd be a 4 to 5

Deep hazed sunshine golden with an eggshell white capped head, fine chunky lacing sporadic on the sides of the glass. Aroma has bright citrus peel flowing, hints of spices like coriander, very bright lemony/orange citrus component absorbs all the attention from my nares. Flavors orange pith bitterness provides balance to the wheat ale breadiness, however all aspects are overshadowed by a bitter lacquer of bitter spices it tastes like you just swallowed perfume when you walked by the tester displays at your favorite department store. Mouthfeel, dry bitterness in the finish, lingering cloying aspect provided by those layers of harsh spice additions lacks balance in both flavors and how it effects the palate, carbonation soft slightly creamy texture is all for nothing light to medium bodied with a lingering harsh character left behind each sip. Overall, it's a rough one more in line with their White IPA, considering this one is representing with 42 IBUs much higher than your average witbier out there.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Best by June 30th 2014.

A: Pours a cloudy light golden yellow with a white head sitting on top. A bit too hazy to see any visible carbonation. Once the head dissipates there is some nice lacing on the glass.

S: Big aroma on this that I was not expecting. Hits you with a full on mango and tropical fruit right off the bat.

T: First thought was that I am glad this is not classified as a wit bier. Certainly fills the shoes of an American Pale Ale much better. A dose of hoppiness is the first thing I get on the flavor profile. That is followed up by the natural fruit flavors added to the beer. A good amount of mango or passion fruit collaborates with what I assume are citra hops.

M: Medium body with ample carbonation. A dry and crisp finish from the hops. Also ends relatively clean keeping it easy drinking.

Overall this is a pretty solid offering from Saranac as long as you do not mind the added flavors.

surprisingly complex (if you let it sit....and forget it's Saranac....not sure why folks beat up on it so much)

expected cloudy golden obtuse shimmer ;)
massive head (please pour it in the right glassware in the right way....!)

candied apricot nose

tangy-sweet bright/light fruit esters...amazing spectrum

mouthfeel is a bit thinner than i would like...maybe the hops can't help beef up the wheat/wit aspect...best place to be 'weak' at

an amazing brew....silly label...what's inside counts

highly recommended

Saranac Prism White Ale
12 oz. brown bottle, code "1424306131502"

Notes: Cloudy yellow-gold body. Bright white head. Very good head retention. Initial lacing is impressive. Floral, very fruity/citrusy nose... pineapple, melon, papaya, lemon, orange, strawberry. Slightly yeasty/chalky and peppery. Flavor is vastly different, yet retains citrus. Nice, light note of orange. More pine than pineapple. Some grapefruit. Mostly Pith. Resinous. Raspy. I don't find the spices that the label suggests other than a bit of dull coriander seed, and perhaps some black pepper. Some very nice wheaty malt. Solid bitterness. It definitely lingers on the palate. L-O-N-G finish... bitterness fades to residual tangy citrus. An interesting beer that's kind of like a Belgian wit but lacking the yeast, and somewhat like an American wheat but with more bitterness. The neck label reads "LIKE THIS? TRY THIS: WHITE IPA", and that seems to be where this is headed. The bitterness could be dropped a bit. I love the aroma but the flavor seems out of balance. Halfway through I can't decide if I'd have another, yet I've still got half a glass left, which says something.

Looks sort of like a semi-clear wheat. Head is average and lacing pretty good. Aroma hits right up front with white peach and other citrus. Smells awesome !!. Taste is similar to aroma with lots of peach and a nice hop bitterness. This beer IMHO is very well balanced and a great refreshing offering from Matt Brewing. Cheers !!

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on May 26, 2014.

It has a milky pale yellow pour leading up to a modest white fizzy head that fades. Nice bits of sediment floating about.

The aroma does not make me think of a witbier. It is more like a fruit beer considering the main notes I get are watermelon and mango. Any toasted biscuit notes are in the distance.

Light and refreshing body.

The taste is also on the fruity side but a modest bitterness kicks in to help make this feel more like a beer.
