A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down, leaving lacing on the surface and down the sides of the glass and a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of grassy hops are present in the nose along with some hints of spicy hops and grainy malts.
T: The taste has flavors of grainy malts along with bits of grassy malts and a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation. No warming properties are perceptible.
O: The taste and body of this beer seem to be muted compared to other maibocks.

This is not my favorite beer style, but Saranac has done a decent job with the Goat Rodeo. It pours a clear golden with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent carries pilsner-like grassy tones with hints of spice. The taste is pretty even....definitely get typical "bock" that is clean and crisp and does not linger too long. There is a touch of sweetness that makes it a bit difficult to session....at least for me. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall....its good.

12 oz. bottle from mixed 12 pack at Trader Joe's. Never seen Saranac here in San Diego before so not sure if this is something new or a unique thing to TJ's. Poured into a pint glass the beer is a clear golden with a thin off white cap. Retention is a bit thin with no active carbonation.

Aroma is slightly sweet and bready but a bit reaching. Taste follows with a light oily/buttery feel on the malt profile. Fullish body but without any real defining characteristics. Subtle hop and alcohol profile. Quaffable but a bit boring to style, yet pleasant and about what I would expect from Saranac.

Best by 6/30/15.

Pours a clear golden-orange with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, toast, and caramel aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, grass, and caramel flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of toast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

This beer poured a nice clear amber into my pint glass. The head was quite fizzy and dissipated quickly. The color goes with the name... it's a bit pale for a bock. And the head is too quick, no real retention.

Aroma was malty and slightly sweet. Couldn't tell if there were caramel notes or not, it was a generic malty aroma. The smell of lager yeast was prominent, but not bad. I usually hope for more from a bock, more of a malt bomb. If I had to sum it up in one word, I would say weak.

I wasn't happy with the taste. I got caramel, but the lager flavor dominated. It wasn't rich like something of this style should be. Imagine a Celebrator blended 50/50 with Bud Light.

Mouthfeel was OK. Nothing to make it stand out but nothing to object to either.

Overall I give this a little below average ratings. I have had better from Saranac. This would not be a go-to bock, nor would I buy a 6 pack. Given the number of beers available here I have not tried yet, I will not go back to this one.

Type: 12-oz. beer
Glass: Modern Times pint glass
From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $10.99 for a variety 12-pack (12 Beers a Springing)
Purchased: April 22, 2015
Consumed: April 23, 2015
Misc.: Best by June 30, 2015 at 10:44 a.m.

Poured a honey, golden, pale, clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki-white, cloudy head. Some bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Minimal watery lacing. Poor retention. (Sight - 3.25)

Smelled cloves, red apple, honey, caramel and plum up front, which was followed by a slightly skunky, vomit smell at the end. (Smell - 3.50)

Tasted similar to the nose, minus the vomit at the end. Still got old, flat beer, though. Also red apple, caramel, honey, cloves and grapes. (Taste - 3.50)

Medium-to-light body. Thin texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt, slightly fruity finish. (Feel - 3.75)

Not bad, not good. Somewhere in between. (Overall - 3.50)

I enjoyed this bottle chilled in a mug.

The color is golden with thick white head with fine bead -visibly carbonated wtih head retention that is ok.The smell has a pilsner malt type aroma with slight odor of caramel and mild herbal hops with tea-like scent. The feel has medium light body with medium high carbonation and mild bitterness with light creamy texture with mild sweetness and semi-dry finish.

The taste is malty with a light sweetness with semi-crisp quality with nice balance of bitterness from the hops with a light nutty taste mid palate with a gentle amount of alcohol and moderate toasted grain aspect. Not overly sweet which is pleasantly surprising. This is a pretty enjoyable pale bock which is not too hoppy, but carbonation is a little high for ease of drinking but perhaps it lightens the mouthfeel to an appropriate level. I liked this and would say it is a decent example of the style with lighter than average alcohol strength.

This beer marks 1000 days in a row for me of drinking a new beer a day. Surprised that I liked it because of its style. Very drinkable, nice for a hot day.

Poured one and a half bottles into a half liter stein,a full rich golden with a decent sized white crown atop.Very light aromas with some light toasted grain and a hint of caramel, not a rich traditional spring bock aroma. Some pale bockish flavors with some caramel and toast but not bold flavors.Good for drinking on a warm spring day but not anything up to par with traditional beers.
