This is exactly the take on the IPA style that one would expect from an old school brewery. It is a very restrained IPA, which is a nice change as most microbreweries seem to use the IPA style as an excuse to pack as much IBUs into a beer as possible. And there is a place for the max IBU beers, but to me it just seems so "done".
There is debate as to how bitter original IPAs were in the 1800s. This tastes like how I would expect an good English brewery would make an IPA. Definitely hoppier, stronger, and more bitter than a regular English style ale, but not over the top. Very nice.
