Poured from a 12 Fl. Oz. bottle into a pint glass. BB JAN 31, 2015.

Look: Pours an amber body with a thin off white head.

Smell: Thin aroma of earthy nutty malts.

Taste: Biscuity, toasty, nutty. Slightly sweet caramel.

Feel: Smooth, yet relatively light. Not quite watery, but not a ton of body.

Overall: Not a bad tasting Octoberfest. Pretty decent overall. (372 characters)

Color and appearance is good but the aroma and taste has too much floral hops for the style. Also, the mouthfeel was rather watery which accentuated the bitter finish. Somewhat surprising considering how well balanced the Saranac pumpkin is. (242 characters)

Bought a single bottle from Wegman's Hylan Dr on 10/5/14. Served in a dimpled mug at fridge temp.

Look: Medium amber with a thin white head.

Smell: sweetish with some spicy hops

Taste: caramel sweetness is not balanced by enough hops

Feel: ok, I guess

overall: mediocre (275 characters)

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Boulevard pint glass
From: From my brother
Price: N/A
Purchased: N/A
Consumed: Sept. 8, 2014
Misc.: Best by Jan. 31, 2015

Poured a caramel auburn color with 1-to-2 fingers of off white head. Nice string of bubbles. Minimal wet lacing along the sides of the glass. Below average retention on the tops. (Sight - 3.75)

Smelled more hops than I’d thought. Citrus hops, coriander, lemon zest, floral hops, iced tea, caramel, light Cascade hops and some lime. (Smell - 3.88)

Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose. Got iced tea, citrus hops, lime rind, coriander, caramel, lemon zest, toffee, light wet Cascade hops, some rye hops, nutmeg and corn malts. (Taste - 3.75)

Light body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.63)

A decent Oktoberfest. (Overall - 3.75)

It doesn't have the punch of an Otter Creek or Thomas Hooker Oktoberfest, but as 'The Bros' point out, it is extremely drinkable. Not a session beer, but definitely a beer to pair with brauts & sauerkraut. (206 characters)

A little on the pricey side but a well rounded beer nonetheless. Smooth from the start with gentle malt flavor and a hint floral grains on the finish. Flavor lasts a second or too after swallowing. Nothing spectacular here but a good starter to the style. Very drinkable. (271 characters)

Mediocre. Typical for Saranac; not great, but not bad. I would take it if nothing else good were available. It's not a bad Oktoberfest (so, as one of my favorite styles it gains points for that). Malty, smooth... Biscuity, with a cracker finish. But a bit thin, lacking in carbonation, and underwhelming. (304 characters)

This brew pours an orange/brown color with a light white head and light lacing. There is medium carbonation.

The smell is sweet and roasted malts, caramel and brown sugar. There is just the lightest hint of floral hops.

The taste follows the nose with heavy sweet and some roasted malts dominating, a little caramel taste then light floral hops at the end. Just enough to keep this brew from becoming too sweet.

Overall this is a good Oktoberfest offering. Pretty typical for the style, it did not blow me away but it is worth trying. (542 characters)

Appearance: Slightly cloudy copper.
Smell: Honey.
Taste: Honey, maybe honey biscuits.

I normally am not all too impressed with Saranac's offerings, but I really enjoyed this one. Honey (more so than caramel) was the dominant sense in both smell and taste. And with the taste, it was a warming honey biscuit. Very drinkable and enjoyable. I will probably get this again next year. (380 characters)

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Consumed in October during my own mini-Oktoberfest.

A- Moderate carbonation is visible through the completely transparent, dark orange/light copper colored body. Unimpressive head dies to nothing before I took my first sip.

S- Sweet malts. Awfully one dimensional.

T- Starts off with the same sweet malts then transitions to a bitter, earthy hop finish. A little grassy in neither a bad nor good way.

M- Thin bodied. Low carbonation. Bitter finish.

O- My own mini-Oktoberfest consisted of a blind side-by-side-by-side tasting of Oktoberfests by Sam Adams, Saranac, and Dundee. Somewhat surprisingly, Saranac came in last. I'm not very well versed in Oktoberfests, but Saranac seemed to be a below average Oktoberfest and about average overall. (788 characters)

A-poured a brownish transparent color with a tan disapating head. Nice in a curvy glass.

S-light smelling hard to pick up tho

T-tastes kind of woodsy, maybe earthy but nothing spectacular i guess. Not a bad octoberfest but not the best that i've had.

M-really grabs on and lays very light...very drinkable.

O-not mouth filling flavorful but maybe because i am not experienced enough in octoberfest beers not sure. But compared to a few others i have had it's ok. If you are standing in the store right now reading this like i have in the past...check the next brand. If you are mixing a sixer...give it a whirl! (616 characters)

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, hazy, amber color, speckled with red and orange highlights, with half of a finger of white head that quickly dissolved into a thin halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass and formed wispy clouds that almost completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Not much in the aroma department, either that, or I’m stuffed up. I get practically no aroma at all.

Taste: This beer is a little thin in the flavor department as well. I get some malt and some caramel sweetness, but overall, it’s rather thin, almost bland.

Mouthfeel: Medium with some good carbonation to tickle the taste buds. With an ABV of 5.1%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: I’m disappointed in this beer. Not much going on at all, it’s just….there. I wouldn’t turn it away if offered, (and there wasn’t any other beers to drink), but I’m not looking for it either, in fact, I’m passing on this one next Oktoberfest. (1,000 characters)

Saranac Octoberfest (2013) - Slightly faint floral aroma with a bit of coriander and bread. Excellent head retention and lacing. Very active small bubbles in the carbonation. Caramel color. Smooth mouthfeel. Muted lager hops on the nose. A little toast. Mid-palate gets a little bolder. Strong lager hops with muted floral undertones. Crisp and full but not overbearing. Strong floral hops notes on the back palate. Good breaded malt notes. A bit of nuts and wood. Aftertaste is good traditional German Lager. Light lingering citrus and pine notes. Not a particularly good Octoberfest-- a bit more hoppy and more lager notes than you would expect for variety. Normally more malty, but that's okay-- it's a good lager nevertheless and very drinkable. Pretty good overall. 3.4 out of 5. (784 characters)

look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.25 | overall: 3.25

Appearance: pours an orange color with a 1/4" head that falls apart quickly.

Smell: very little aroma as only some malt sweetness is hard to detect,

Taste: malt profile is a bit mild with some slight nuttiness, and a bit of ripe dark fruits. Bitterness is very mild.

Mouthfeel: lighter side of a medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp throughout. Short lasting aftertaste.

Overall: a very weak flavored oktoberfest beer that is easy to consume, but lacks the satisfaction expected from the style. (495 characters)

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a brownish tinted amber color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The head has a good level of staying power, fading slowly over time to leave a decent level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is of a lightly roasted malt aroma with some nice aromas of a caramel sweetness. A light amount of spice is there as well giving an overall sweet and lightly roasted Oktoberfest aroma overall.

Taste –The taste begins with a lightly roasted and bready flavor with a strong showing of caramel. As the flavor advances from the initial, the flavor initially sweetens even more with some brown sugar flavors coming to the tongue. The roasted gets a bit stronger more toward the middle of the taste with other flavors of spice coming to the tongue. The sweeter flavors, at the same time, start to dwindle with a light herbal flavor that comes to the tongue. In the end the mix of flavors leaves a sweeter roasted and lightly hopped flavor on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side with a carbonation level that is on the medium side as well. Both are fitting for the style and make for a rather easy drinking style.

Overall –An overall easy drinking, sweeter Oktoberfest. Rather tasty overall and not bad for the price. (1,347 characters)

12 oz bottle poured into wine glass.

A - Ruby-brown-amber, a lot of ruby when put to a light. Just a bit of carbonation showing. A thin, half-inch head appeared and dissipated somewhat quickly.

S - Lot's of strong malt up front, and a grassy aroma. A general fermenty aroma as well. Really not much going on, but not unpleasant.

T - Same with the aroma. Lot's of strong malt is noticeable up front, as well as a dirt-type bitterness. Not a hoppy bitterness, as I couldn't taste anything as far as hops. A bit of cocoa in the aftertaste. As with the aroma, not much going on, but it's not a bad tasting beer.

F - Very drinkable. Could be a session beer even, if consumed slowly. Easy on the throat and tongue.

O - Not a whole lot going on, and I've certainly had better Marzen's, but this isn't a bad beer, and won't mind drinking it again. Doesn't have the sweetness than can damage some Marzens, and is crisp and clean like a regular Lager of Pilsener would be. (968 characters)

Pours a clear light copper with two fingers of off-white head that retained for a long time and left nice lacing behind. The nose is malty and bready - typical for this style. Malt is definitely present in the flavor profile, but the body is a bit light for style. The finish is pleasantly dry. This offering is not excellent, but it is a pretty good effort. (358 characters)

Copper amber color with decent head and moderate carbonation. Malty, fruity aroma. Bitter and very malty taste. Decent malt balance. Toasty, caramel malty aftertaste. An average octoberfest. Finishes slightly thinner than it started. Maybe a bit more malty than we'd like. (272 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours a nice light red orange with little head. Smells of dark roasted malt with slight hint of chocolate. Tastes of water and malt, a little weak but leaves a great aftertaste. Beer is very drinkable, light bodied, and good carbonation. Overall, an average beer. (317 characters)

one of the classic fall beer of upstate new york. pours a redish amber browny color with a nice tall white head. the nose is sweet german malts and bready yeast, right on for the style. the flavor really features the malt, its quite bold, minerally, honey sweet. i feel like this is more authentic than many american versions. the finish is a touch too sweet i think, but the mouthfeel is awesome, more than medium body but remaining very drinkable due to the low abv and the powerful carbonation. works well in a lot of ways. its a great 6er to drink on a summer late fall day, and one that goes well with a lot of good autumnal cuisine. a very versatile brew, one of saranacs better seasonals. (695 characters)

This is a good octoberfest. Very easy to drink... consider yourself warned
A: Pure gold with some nice carbonation
S: Roasted malts and some spice, a bit of smoke, hops aplenty
T: Very crisp initial feeling with the hops biting my palate right away!
M: Goes down real smooth, including a pleasant tasty yeastiness like a belgian or unfiltered
O: Excellent beer. For the price (just got a sixpak at $7.50) this is absolutely outstanding! (436 characters)

A- pours dark golden color with a pretty good size fizzy cream colored head with short retaining lace.

S- clean and malty with just a hint of caramel, fresh yeasty bread and faint hop trace

T- big malty flavors from the two row and crystal malts, bready, and a hint of hops. Finishes slightly tangy and somewhat dry

M- medium body and carbonation with a creamy mouthfeel, high drinkability

O- about an average Oktoberfest in terms if taste but very drinkable and sessionable. (480 characters)

Poured into a pint glass.

Pours a hazy copper/amber color. Off white head settles to a lace layer head that leaves solid lace all the way down the glass. Good looks.

Brew smells of light bready malts and mild earthy hops. Mellow unassuming nose. Average nose.

Brew tastes balanced. Good medium feel; peppery hops and full bodied malts to balance the feel. Good grain and caramel malts here balanced by a earthy, spicy hops. Impressed by the feel here as I drink. This is a very good octoberfest.

One of the better octoberfests I have tried. Good brew here. (560 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a tumbler pint, the beer is a bright, slightly hazed, orange-copper coloring with a thin, foamy white coating of head. Aromas of tangy caramel, roasted nut, hints of pumpkin, and some very light spicing. The nose lends itself more to the sweet side, a touch unbalanced. Flavors are a touch light, with a roasted grain and light toffee blending in the backbone, minimal spicing, and an overall watery mouthfeel. The finish has a touch of roast and pumpkin sweetness, but it also falls short on flavor and feel. I would not seek this one out again. (572 characters)

A- Clear deep amber with decent off-white head. Head leaves a bit of a trace on the glass.

S- Alcohol, malty with a touch of berries. Grain.

T- Fairly noticeable citrussy hops up front that gives a bitter flash that lingers with a faint grapefruit finish. Grain middle behind the hops.

MF- Medium body with a crisp lager feel. Good carbonation (not too much, not too little).

O- Nothing bad about it, but it didn't blow me away either. (439 characters)
