Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #53 (June 2011):

Pale color; clarity and hefty amount of white head walks the walk. Hint of malt, more of a grainy husk and pale leather ... soft, but there with a twang of fermentation in the nose. Crispness is there, and a dry, pulling graininess seems to want to take over right from the get-go. Modest hopping—that’s all this brew really needed, though there is no real depth of flavor from the bitterness. Grain becomes almost a bit chalky in the bone-dry finish. A decent stab at the style, but a bit more malt and a pinch of sweetness with hopping to back it would bring it to where it should be.

12 oz bottle with no freshness date.

A- Clear with a deep golden color. Good lacing effect on the glass.

S- Grape skin, ghost like vinous character. Grainy aroma with a husk smell throughout.

T- Grape skin, watery malt husk. Bready malt, light hopping. Semi-clean palate with a clean and dry finish. Malt character is watery ... no full flavor from the malt let alone the hops.

M- Good crispness but a weird slickness forms on the tongue after each sip.

D- A decent brew to put back, but the craving for more flavor turns me to other beers.

[Suggested Glassware: Kölsch Glass]

The pour was a clear light amber with a large (2-3 finger) white frothy head that hung around for only a short while, reducing to a thin cap and had fair streaky lacing.

The aroma was of a straw malt, herbal hops and a musty yeast with hint of citrus and a dusty cardboard odor.

The taste was very lightly sweet and a tad malty with a touch of citrus throughout, with the finish being a rather minerally with a light bitterness and had a dusty bland ending. The flavor lasted only a short time which turned out not to be a bad thing in case, with the lightly bitter bland citrus taste disappearing quickly off the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with a carbonation that was just above soft.

Overall this was a weak tasting brew, with the only thing standing out was a mildly bitter cardboard taste. Most definitely not worth having another...

From twelve ounce undated bottle.

Aroma is grassy. Pours clear orange body with an inch of beige head. Head dissipates almost immediately to a thin ring with hardly any lace. Taste is a bit bland, like lemongrass tea with a slight bitter bite on the finish. A good summer choice, very drinkable but not particularly notable!

This is a decent kolsch, not great, but enjoyable enough.

Gold, it has a big white head steadily shrinking to ring and a few weak bit of lace.

Aroma is thin perfumy grain/corn, grassy hops, a bit soapy - pleasant enough but a bit crude and thin.

Taste is pleasant, tasty grain and grassy hops & slightly zesty but a bit soapy and rough and thin and a bit gummy. It's kind of like a basic pale lager with an extra zing.
