Poured a bright golden color, with a decent cap of bubbly off-white foam. Aromas of floral hops, somewhat grassy, bubblegum and biscuit. On the palate, this one was light to medium bodied, with flavors of good hops, as well as some pears, peaches and biscuit malt.

Pours golden with single finger head leaving no lacing.

Great hop aroma along with some citrus.

Hoppy bitterness followed but lemon citrus and then back to a little bitterness.

Light body with some lingering bitterness.

A good beer for the summer without sacrificing alot of taste.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pale, medium straw colored, and crystal clear. Foamy white head of about 3/4" inch. Low head retention going to a thin film of bubbles rather quickly.

S: Light malt mixed with something of a fruity herbal note, perhaps coriander. Some very faint citrus hops come through as well.

T&M: Light bodied but flavorful, with an interesting combination of light or pale malts and what I think is probably coriander. The result reminds me of something like a Grand Cru but some how more of a lighter way about it. The carbonation is fine but abundant, giving a bit of a lively mouthfeel. This finishes mostly dry & clean with a touch of malt and a linger of those spices.

D: The spices are nice at first but it doesn't take long to get enough. Nice but not something I would drink often.

Part of a summer sampler 12 pack. Some hits, some misses. This was an OK beer, but nothing really special. It was a clear orange color with a medium head that retained pretty well. Not much aroma, a little grain detected. Not much taste, some citrus and a little bit of spice. It is drinkable in the sense of downing a few on a really hot summer day.

It has a clear filtered body that is golden color. Its head is white, bubbly and fades fast. The aroma is light and has a lemony essence. Its flavor is simple, sweet and lemony with light wheat malt. The body is medium with a slightly slick feel and an average carbonation. Overall it is a very refreshing ale with a clean flavor.

hmm i don't really know what a summer ale would be style wise but one thing is for sure it has to be thirst quenching for me otherwise it seems out of place

i poured my sample in a plastic cup (all i had at the time) but i could analyze the color as it was clear plastic, a nice hazy orange color

the aroma was not there i did get a faint smell of some sweet malk but not much else going on

overall the taste was rather bland it did not stand out for me it just seemed like a regular beer nothing special about it or nothing that made me want to suck one down at a bbq or baseball game or while mowing the lawn

overall a decent beer but i just didn't get excited about it

12 oz bottle with no freshness date.

A- Thin off white lacing, pale copper hue. Clear but the head lacks a bit.

S- Iced herbal tea? Sweet maltiness in the back.

T- Soapy with a lackluster malt character, hops are minimal with some washed spice flavors from coriander and such.

M- Slick with a modest carbonation within a medium body.

D- I could barely down on bottle and I am certainly not going for a second. This is like a Belgian Wit gone wrong.

Well, its Saranac, so expectations are low. Pours a decent enough yellow with a degree of haze. Smells like lemon. More than anything.

Tastes like lemon more than anything. I guess relatively speaking, its a decent Saranac brew, it tastes like something that isn't offensive for once, and its actually assertive. Don't necessarily know that I want the flavor they decide to get assertive with be lemon, but its a start. There really isn't much else to talk about, lemon dominates. Too expensive to be drinkable, too sour and sweet one dimensional lemony as well.

Appears a clear golden honey hue with a large amount of white head that dwindles quickly, lacing is scant and thin. Aroma tart lemon peel with spiciness and thick grainy edges. Flavor is a bit rough on the back of the throat with that cereal graininess and lemon zest flow, thick spices left on the palate in the finish. Mouthfeel is light bodied carbonation is heavy to point of it gives you trouble when going to swallow. Drinkability is not so great I'd much rather have a nice golden ale rather than lemon flavor and strong spices added. Those two aspects take away from the drinkability factor.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle from the "12 beers of summer" 12 pack.

A-Clear amber with a puffy eggshell head. One of the better looking beers from the pack.

S-Sweet, earthy citrus and grassy.

T-Clean, crisp and refreshing, but not much going on here. Watered down malts, but not bad either.

M-Very light, as one would expect for the style. Decent, but not outstanding.

D-Very drinkable on a warm day. You are not here for taste, as much as for a quencher.

Thin, clear golden orange-yellow body with a sudsy white head settling atop a Hoegaarden tumbler--why so much plaer than the Belgian white? the head leaves a slight tracing as the bottle drains... straw and lemon zest to the nose... a bit of pilsner malt plays a part as well... a freshness does exist here... softer yet more astringent than the Belgian in the sampler... malts provide a semblance of a body, but this is still light (purposefully, I imagine) and buttery/creamy on the finish... the malts rush the flavors straight back to the throat--a soft ale exists somewhere in this wheatness... this provides a nice feeling for summer, even if August in NJ has been unseasonably Autmumnal... shorter on hops to increase its drinkability, no doubt, this ale seems to attempt the "sparkling" aspect of a Cooper's perhaps... not bad, but flavor is elusive...

Saranac- Summer

A- Light caramel brown, clear, no carbonation, small light sticky head.
S- Not much here. Slight sugary corn syrup, wheat, and clove.
T- Very light malt, sweet caramel/ corn syrup with a slight fruitiness. Spicy clove and wheat with a thick malt finish.
M- Light sweet malt with a dry body and thicker malt in the backend.

Overall- Light and mellow but a decent drinker.

Pours a 'pretty" coppery orange and is mostly clear save for the rapidly rising carbonation bubbles. Thin white tight bubbled head sits atop. Smell is loaded with a far from subtle lemon topped by an even light spice. I like lemons, and I'll even eat them when they put them on my water glass in restaurants, but this beer relies on lemon a bit too much. It is still enjoyable on a hot day, but I didn't buy mike's hard lemonade for a reason.
Anyways, lemon-ness aside this is an OK beer. Good when you're in a drinking a lot mood. Wheat graininess is evident and carbonation is good. Its sharp and blends well with the lemons' assertiveness.

Worth a try when you're looking for refreshment.

This is the first tasting of the Saranac summer series 12-pack:

AP: golden caramel in color with only mild carbonation that is able to create smooth and even but thin all-white head. dissiaptes slowly to a minimal "ring around the edge" and some minor, scattered lacing.

nose: nutmeg, old spices, zesty dried fruit, vanilla and herbal hops.

Flavor & Feel: light bodied but smooth and crsip with a clean wheat and grains malted flavor with distinct lemmon and nutmeg currents. There is a refreshing sour-yeast and very herbal, hearty hop finish.

DA: These are great for summer time, easily drinkable and rather refreshing but a bit less emphasis on spices would be nice.

As per the possible suggestion, this 12 oz. bottle has been poured into my Aventinus glass.

Appearance: Hazy yellow with some brown tints, decent lacing, and a decent head. Nothing special, but at the moment it works for me.

Smell: Lemon grass, some lemon sugars, OJ or citrus fruit soda, herbal cough drops. Odd, which intrigues me, but it does indeed smell like a wacky Belgian Wit with something wrong with it in the mix.

Taste: Herbal cough drops up front, and yes, not something that's gratifying. Some off balanced citrus zest, watery malts that almost aren't there, and the faintest of hops, maybe.

Mouthfeel: Slick and watery, carbonation almost not present or is very light, which is odd.

Drinkability: I give it a 3 because I could see myself grabbing one of these instead of some light macro out of a cooler with friends grilling burgers and dogs in the July heat. Otherwise, as far as sitting down and reviewing this sucker or partaking in the aforementioned activities (though I don't think any of my friends would randomly have Saranac in a cooler, though that's beside the point), the tasting's not gonna happen again...

12oz bottles poured into a pint glass.

Pours a golden straw color with a quarter inch of head that fades to a thin lacing. Smells grainy and mildly like straw, the hops are noticeable, but take a backseat here. Taste is very mild; wheat and hops, but the flavors are so mellow that neither offer much. The bottle says lemon, orange and spice, but I get a tiny hint of lemon in the finish and that's it. This beer is very carbonated and actually turns to foam in your mouth; incredibly light bodied.

This beer is mediocre at best.

Lemon juice and copper mix in the coloration below a half finger of quickly dissipating white head...

Has a urine citron and cherries smell too it not much else

Light fruity malts and lemon water... reminds me of the belgian white and wheat from the same sampler... also has a distinctive sam adams wheat flavor to it too

Soda pop mouthfeel on a light body

Overall there isn't much here. I have a feeling this is just another one of those breweries that are scared to put out a bold product. Like Boulder Beer and BJ's Pizza. Too bad

Medium oily-looking amber-gold, smallish lasting head...grainy, lightly sour nose with hints of fruit...refreshing tart, crisp flavor profile, hints of toasty malt underneath and a touch of smokiness late...light-moderate body, tiny swirls of tart apple in nose and flavor as it warms.

The final beer out of my Saranac Summer mix pack. 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a dark golden orange color with a nice off-white head. The aroma is sweet floral malt and a touch of citrus. The taste has some notable wheat flavors with a hint of citrus and hops in the finish. Overall, Saranac Summer Ale accomplishes what it sets out to be, a refreshing and easy drinking beer to enjoy during the warm summer months. Not overly flavorful, but refreshing.
