A very good example of what a light lager should be. Pours out to a medium golden color with lots of carbonation streaming from the bottom of the glass. 1/4 inch head of white foam. Aroma is light, as to be expected, but notable elements of malts and yeast-laden bread are present. Taste is rather quaffable, by any standards; light malt and hops, smooth biscuit notes. The mouthfeel is ok, as the carbonation plays only a small part as the rather smooth beer sails across the tongue. Drinkability is solid. I'm not big on light beers per se, but this one gets my vote. Recommended.

Light beer in a suitcase of 24 cans produced by a craft brewery and sold for the same price as Budweiser. Sign of the apocalypse?

Clear light golden color with a huge fluffy white head.

Light grainy aroma with notes of DMS.

Crisp grain, buttery diacetyl, vegetal notes and a mildly sweet finish.

Crisp, thin, light body.

About what you would expect from a light American lager. Little appealing flavor, plenty of off flavors. Uninspired.

UPDATE:

It's more than what you would expect after trying the original UC. I went to school in the area and UC and UCL are some of the cheapest beers in the area. Truthfully, you can't get much better for the money, as I remember the price range was about the same as an Old Milwaukee Light. (still is...)

Utica Clubs recipe has been redone....the cannery burnt down @ the FX Matt Brewery and during the rebuilding time they re-designed UC. The beer is much better now and the price-point remains the same.

UC poors like a good light american lager should. The smell is the worst part which isn't as bad as I remember. The flavor, now redesigned, is even more prominent. All in all, a great beer for the money. The Utica locals would agree. :)

My first sip of UCL tasted like apple juice. However, after a few of these beers, it tasted similar to any other cheap light beer on the market. It went down smoothly, as most watery light beers (Keystone, coors, etc.) do. Definitely a good tasting beer for the money. If you havent tried UCL yet, which most of you probably havent, go out and get yourself a few 12 packs of this stuff and get stupid.
