This is one of those beers that shows up at the store and begs you to try it. You know it won’t be fantastic, but 6.99 a sixer vs. 14.99 for that Hopslam. Come on. Try it. OK, wait until a single goes up at $2 bucks. Less to risk, you think. More money saved for Hopslam. Xenophobic, are we?

This one pours out more gold than most, flamboyant froth with stringy-clouds.

Got a whiff of nail polish initially, but this is actually a well-integrated I2pa. Still, hot. Hits me with vague hops, not too pungent or distinctive. Smells sweet. Green hops hiding somewhere deep under there.

Taste is sweet, grainy, with a faint suggestion of toasted oats. Hints of mint in the hop-profile as well. Cacophonous. Seems like all sorts of hops and malts were thrown together with out too much craftsmanship.

The mouthfeel is smooth and seems to disguise some of the negative aspects – perhaps especially after the ~8% hits you.

Bottle purchased as part of Wegmans mix a six pack.

Pours out a golden amber, with a one inch head, and some good long lasting lacing down the glass.

Smells very piney. I can tell this will be bitter.

Astringently bitter and piney. Some bitter orange and grapefruit peel provide some citrus flavors, but the dominant flavor is astringent, hard to swallow bitterness. A bit of a boozy sting, as well. The hops seem muddled and just thrown together for the hell of it- just to make a super hoppy bitter IPA. Not a whole lot of skill involved. There is a lot of very sweet malt flavor near the end.

Medium bodied, sticky and sweet mouthfeel. High carbonation.

A miss from Saranac, as per usual.
