Aroma: Very mild fruity esters and some wheat. No pomegranate. Very slight citrus from the Columbus hops.
Appearance: It pours with a good wheat beer head, but dissipates too quickly leaving only a thin cap of wheat foam on the surface of the beer. The color is a medium gold. It is appropriately hazy, from wheat protein not yeast.
Flavor: The flavor is mild, but a good blend between wheat and pomegranate. This balance is rather well done, arriving at a light and refreshing taste while still achieving an interesting and mutually supporting blend of wheat and pomegranate. There is a very slight underlying sweetness. Once again a slight citrus from Columbus hops.
Mouthfeel: The body is medium light. It is slightly heavier than I expected, but yet not to an extent that it distracts from the refreshing nature of this beer.
Overall Impression: This beer falls well within the boundaries of an American wheat beer. Pomegranate adds fruit flavor for an interesting contribution to a refreshing summer ale.
Comments: The surprise is how well they have accentuated a refreshing wheat beer with a very well done balance between the normal wheat flavor/tartness and pomegranate fruit. The pomegranate adds just enough complexity to keep this beer interesting without interfering with its basic refreshing nature. The Columbus hops character comes out more as the beer warms, so if you like citrusy American hops, let this beer warm slightly before you drink it.
