Having a bottle of this at the Union Brewhouse in Weymouth, MA. Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that has reduced to a thin layer. It is a pale orange color with great clarity and some bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice lacing as the beer was drank too.

Smell: light bready and caramel malts. Some citrus in there too.

Taste: some spiciness from the rye, breast notes, some sweet malts, citrus too.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, low to medium carbonation, light bodied, too easy to drink.

Overall: Just alright for a rye IPA. I would try it out on draft to see if it tastes more clear and the flavors are more pronounced.

Bottle poured into a pint glass, left over from my summer stash. 1/5

Pours gold, dark edge but definitely see through. Light white foam sits atop and laces. Light malty nose hints of rye. Mild bitter note in the taste. Touch of sweetness. Caraway bread notes. Simple and clean IPA. Good use of rye to subtly influence the flavor.

From twelve ounce bottle with no freshness date.

The aroma is of a slightly sour bread with a bit of floral mixed in. The beer pours a dark yellow body with two fingers of off white head. The head lasts a decent while going into a spotty lacing on the glass. The taste is crisp, reminds me a little of Seagrams rye whiskey with a citrus kick. Nice!

[Suggested Glassware: Tulip Glass]

The pour was a clear golden amber with an average (1-2 finger) white frothy head that reduced to a large puddle and small collar with good streaky lacing.

The aroma was kind of mild with a light grain and bread malts, grassy hops and an earthy yeast along with a note of caramel and a slight rye spiciness.

The taste was lightly malty with a hint of a caramel sweetness in the beginning, maturing slightly with a mild hoppiness and a light rye presence right at the end. The flavor was average in duration with a light spicy bitterness lingering for only a short while.

Mouthfeel was light in body with a watery and mildly dry texture and a lively carbonation.

Overall this brew had very little rye flavor and just a light bitterness which pretty much made it an OK brew, but really nothing special...

A more popular style these days but a newer one for the Saranac line from Matt, this one is a dark golden-yellow color, like a polished gold bar though perhaps just a little further down the color spectrum. The development of a very nearly white head is respectable. It tops off at one finger, has moderate retention, and is kept up to a strong foam but unceasing bubbling activity. Lacing is left in patching and spotting.
The smell is pretty good, giving a floral bitterness that's a good strength with the obvious spicy and earthy notes of rye. There's a hint of caramel sweetness balancing it out, and a little biscuit too. Some citrus pith rounds it out.
It loses a bit in the flavor, though, and I don't know if it's the malts backing down or the clashing fruitiness of the yeast. It doesn't come together quite properly, though it's not bad exactly.
The feel is nice, on the lighter side of medium with a strong but soft crispness and a smooth flow.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a golden-amber color with a two finger white head and tons of carbonation bubbles seen streaming up through the brew. The head has a good level of retention slowly fading over time to leave a moderate level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The smell is a mix of rye bread and some aromas of sweet caramel. Mixed with these aromas are some moderately strong aromas of grapefruit and floral hop.

Taste – The taste begins with a bready and lighter rye taste upfront. There is a very small amount of caramel upfront but this fades very fasting leaving a rather dry and bready taste overall. With the drying out of the brew, so too comes the hop. Initially there is a little bit of a grassy hop taste which grows stronger as the flavor advances to the end. Along with the grassy hop so to comes some grapefruit and a little bit of a floral hop flavor. The grapefruit hop grows the strongest at the end leaving a light rye bread and moderately hopped dry taste on the tongue

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average to slightly above average side. Both were appropriate for the style and matched the flavor profile rather well.

Overall – An OK rye, although a little light on the rye and a bit too on the drier side for me.
