12oz bottle poured into a standard pint glass
This beer poured a dark amber color with a thin head that looked to get creamier as it settled. The aroma is first like a typical brown ale, but then a citrusy hop note speaks up at the end.
The flavor is unique...kind of like someone mixed a brown ale with an IPA. There's an earthy-malt finish on my lips and the tip of my tongue. I don't particularly like the aftertaste.
Not impressed.

usually a winter offering, this some times shows up in other places. a hopped up amber ale that retains some malt sweetness while still dropping a heavy dose of hops in the finish. good on hearty winter days, but also works on chilly summer nights when its around. the pour is medium amber, like maple syrup, with good carbonation and a just off white head an inch tall. it smells like an English ipa, with a lot more malt to balance than most American versions. yeast is a little generic on the taste, and that's my main critique. something a little more interesting or sturdy would pay off I reckon. still, a good bitter hop profile to offset the sweetness of the red malts, and a clean sort of finish for the style. a little more body than I need though, and as such, one or two of these is usually enough for me. good bubbles, but maybe even overcarbonated a tad. not saranacs best beer overall, but something I am happy to pick up a few times a year because I like the style.
