I was scared to try this beer, I should have listened to my senses...wtf? As pale golden as any fizzy yellow American beer with a bright white head, looks like some Genny beer. Aroma has hints of lemon peel wedges and sugary lemonade with a note of fizzy yellow beer coming through. Flavor has a super lemonade spiked with mike's hard lemonade and peel bitterness with sugary notes coating the sides of my tongue wow, what a beer to sip on. More lemon peel and sugar then anything that tastes like lemonade or beer, it's pretty fucked up that every bigger beer company wants to make this style this summer. Mouthfeel is carbonated fizzy tastes more like cola with extra syrupy layers. Overall a style of beer I can go without what's going on?

A - Well it looks like a lager, maybe slightly more yellow since the lemonade and a 1/4 inch of head that seems to fizz out rather quickly.

S - Doesn't actually smell too bad. Kind of artificial without being too tart but the lager aspect smells fairly good.

T - Uh it's downhill from here. Powdered lemonade all the way in fact over sugared powdered lemonade. The only good aspect is the lager part which kind of balances this but it only makes it kind of drinkable.

M - Light to medium a regular sugar bomb.

Overall I am not one to complain about sweet beers but this one I couldn't see having more than one. Would rather have a big glass of water than have this again.

Pours straw yellow with a head that disappears almost immediately, leaving no lacing.

The smell is clean - not much... lemonade with some malt.

The taste is of lemonade with a malty undertone. Dryness comes from the lemonade.

It is crisp and pretty refreshing. Not too spritzy.

Reviewed for what it is, it's not bad. Nothing really offensive. It's a lighter brew with lemonade, malt and modest alcohol. It's more "beer-like" than a malt beverage with lemon flavor, so I scored it a bit higher. It's not bad for what it is.

A-pours a clear yellow straw color with a white head with average retention
S- seven up and pledge. Not great
T-same profile in the flavor. It's like seven up mixed with chemical artificial lemon flavoring
M-light bodied
O-not a great beer and def not the representation of a shandy. Way too sweet.

Had a bottle of this in the beer fridge since the summer, and decided to give it a try, mostly to free up space. I had low expectations, and the were met.
Appearance: Light, clear yellow with a nice white 1"head. So far so good.
Smell: Lemon, Lemon, Lemon. But not offensive. It is a Shandy.... There were no background notes, other than some low key, bready lager aromas.
Taste: Again, Lemon, but with an adjunct lager taste. I took 3 sips and poured it out
Mouthfeel: Tart, Puckering flavor. Fairly thin. Left the Lemon aftertaste
Overall: I am not a fan of this "style". I like my beer, and I like my lemonade, but not combined. I like Saranac beers, but this one is not a good one. At least I have more room in the fridge.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium yellow in color with heavy amounts of active visible carbonation quickly rising from the bottom of the glass and some lemon yellow highlights. The beer has a two finger tall fizzy sudsy bright white head that quickly reduces to a thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick sudsy ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of grainy malts and corn adjuncts with a slightly stronger sweet lemonade.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of slightly sweet grainy malts with a touch of corn and rice adjuncts. That is followed by a light to moderate flavor of slightly sweet lemonade with a very light hint of tartness. No bitterness is perceptible.

M: Slightly heavier than light bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin.

O: Super easy to drink and would be a good beer for mowing the lawn during the summer here in NC where it can get a little hot and humid. Refreshing and a decent example of a shandy.

Bought this at Wegmans in Bridgewater NJ. Place has a great beer guys there.

A: lagerish golden color slight white head. Looks drinkable.

S: Lager nose with lemonade. Lemongrass.

T: Great mix of a lager with a lemon sweetness of a lemonade strong flavor of lemonade but light enough to be refreshing. semisweet delicious

M: Light bodied. Not a wheatstyle so to me it mixes great. Even tho im a wheat guy. Slight carbonation

O: Overall this is extremely drinkable and for the style id have to say its done perfect. Better then most. During hot summer day this would be amazing ice cold. First to review but im positive not the last. This stuff is food.

Pours a one finger white head that vanishes instantly leaving no lace. Crystal clear straw color. Light carbonation and light bodied. Lemonade nose and flavor is sweet lemonade barely mellowed by the lager, works as a lawnmower beer and not much else. $1.50 for a 12oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.

A - Poured out a clear, pale golden color with a small, white head that quickly receded. Little to no lacing to speak of.

S - It smelled of fresh squeezed lemons. Not many beer-like qualities.

T - It tasted a bit like lemonade with a crisp grain presence. No bitterness, just a touch of tart.

M - Crisp, sharp and highly carbonated. A light bodied beer with a clean finish.

O - This is an okay shandy. It just doesn't deliver like Stiegl's radlers.

My bro in law picked up a 6er of these for a recent family gathering and I ended up with the remaining bottles, so let's giver her a whirl!

Pours a transparent soft straw yellow with lots of visible carb and a foamy head. Lager all day.

Nose is as advertised, lager and lemonade.

Really comes alive in the taste since it leads with the lemonade. The lager is still present enough to remind you it is a beer but he super sweet and thick lemonade flavors dominate.

Mouth is prickly carbonation and a bit odd since it is a lemonade beer.

Overall surprisingly refreshing. A great beverage to have for your friends who don't like beer, and a great example of the amazing flavors you can find in a beer in today's world, but not something I could have on any regular basis but a fun novelty to enjoy in the warmer months.

I'm not sure if shandy counts as a beer in itself but nevertheless, there's a first time for everything.

Pours a lemony gold with very little head into my glass. Hmm. Looks rather boring.

Sweet malt with very little lemon essence. Where's the lemonade part?

Interesting. The lemonade offers a contrast to the bland malt. Sweet, but with the right hint of tartness. Reminds me more of Mike's Hard Lemonade than an authentic German shandy.

Let's just say that I burped and it was more lemonade than cheap lager. That's your mouthfeel.

Not bad but I'll stick to my saisons.

12oz bottle served in a standard pint glass.

L - clear yellow color with a white head that eventually just fizzled out.

S - white grape juice and lemon heads candy.

T - sweet white grape and lemon, maybe a little too sweet.

F - light bodied with mild carbonation.

O - not all that good, I wan't impressed.

It is a shandy, just the right amount of lemon compared to other shandys I have tried, though a bit on the sweet side. For something light and delicious this is a good beer and sits well on a hot summer day. Had friends over for a weekend of relaxing with beer, while other beers definitely won out in over quality, this beer made a clear victory in the "volume consumed" category due to the ease of consumption and compatibility with the high humidity heat that rolled through.

Format: a slim brown 355mL bottle with a standard Saranac macro label.

Appearance: pours out a pale straw yellow with a huge inch of extremely creamy pure white head that drops over a few minutes to a solid cap. Great rings of lacing as it drops too. Exceeds expectations. Update: a more moderate half-finger on subsequent pours.

Aroma: faint lemon citrus without much in the way of lager qualities.

Taste: there is a definite sweet grain in there, along with some lemon tartness. You can absolutely tell that the lemonade has "high fructose corn syrup and lemon juice concentrate and lemon flavour" rather than a proper lemonade, as the lemon qualities are harsh and a little artificial.

Aftertaste: a slightly astringent lemon sourness on the finish.

Mouth aeel: A light-to-moderate body with a moderate, semi-spritzing carbonation. The feel is a little flat, which is disappointing. A touch more carbonation would make it sit a bit better.

Overall: the last time I had a shandy was one of those odd times mum had one from dad's beer when I was eight or nine. I was expecting this to be dreadful, but it was well above expectations - which is to say it is okay. The lemon is not very good quality but as an overall package this is not bad. I wouldn't pay AU$60 a case for it though, and if I was watching what I drank I would just get a mid-strength lager instead.

as shandys go, and im not a fan of diluting my beer with anything, this is a good one. better in cans than bottles, I appreciate the option this year. it has a foggy sort of pee yellow color to it, nothing too appealing, and only a small foam head. the nose is better, with concentrated lemonade, like the frozen minute made kind, with a generic lager. it has a refreshing taste when cold, cuts any humidity, but it does finish more sweet than puckery, more artificial than all natural, and is just a tad unsettling in the gut. its not a bad brew with lunch on a hot day, but more than two of these is uncalled for in my opinion. the lager could be better, as could the lemonade, but the proportions are spot on, and the feel is good, with soda style bubbles and a very light body. cut out about half the sugar, and do it with a better lager, and you've got a real winner. this is golf course swill at the very least, a fine summer cocktail at its best. ill have plenty over the next few months by default, and im okay with that.

Imagine a crappy adjunct lager laced with powdered lemonade. And maybe an extra pinch of sugar to cover any foul (or non) taste. Bottled in an amber tall neck so it looks like beer. And of course with a high key summery label. Got the picture?

Well this is a Saranac Shandy. My advice? Stay away. Although yer date or wife or little sister might like one.

If you have to have a "big beer" shandy, go with a Shock Top. Not great but light years ahead of the Saranac.

ALMOST PERFECT! The only complaint I had on this "Shandy" is that it was just a touch too sweet. The lemon flavor is very nice and fresh and the brew itself super complimentary. I started on the Shandy style brews in Munich for Oktoberfest in 2010. In Germany, they call this type more of a "Radler" - which can be made by mixing some type of lemonade or lemon/lime soda into a beer. I like it served best in large quantities (1 Liter please!) mixed with a Dunkle...but again, I digress from my point. This brand of Shandy is very very good and very very nice in the summertime. Nothing like an ice cold lemony beer to cool you off - served of course in a frosty mug. I also tried this out of a bottle and it was not as good - sort of flattened the flavor or something, can't quite put my finger on it. Honestly though, what brew isn't really "better" (for all intents and purposes) on tap :)

Pours a very light golden yellow color with a very thin head. It has a lager and slight citrus smell to it, with the lager smell being more prominent. The lemonade taste is very up front with a taste of lager at the end. Very lightly carbonated that doesn't linger around. Overall I think this is a good beer. #t6pp

Appearance - fizzy lemon yellow
Small - I don't get much of anything
Taste - lemonade with a splash of beer
Mouth - fizzy lemonade like I get for my kids on holidays
Overall - I was prepared to hate it, I don't. I will not need another one but like another reviewer said your wife may like one if she doesn't like beer. I drank the whole thing.
