The appearance may be the most impressive thing about this one. The color is very dark brown with dark red hues. The head is a very thick, foamy tan that retains two finger depth the entire time and thick lacing is heavy.
The smell is toasty and malty with prevalent hops.
This beer is pleasantly heavy, very hearty. Malt prevails, with roasted hops in the foreground. I also taste coffee and dark chocolate flavors. There's a tinge of bitterness that blends well.
Body is full, thick and smooth, a little slick. A dry finish lingers nicely leaving hints of bitter hops on the back of the tongue.
I don't know that this is technically correctly called a Black and Tan, but it's a nice offering and worth drinking. One of the better ones I picked in my last outing.
