The Black and Tan is easily Saranac's most popular brew, but I wasn't particularly impressed by it. It's looks good and black when first poured, with a nice big head which unfortunately quickly diminishes. The nose is primarily malt and bread, which does follow through exactly as you'd expect it too in the flavor. The predominant flavors are roasted malt and bread, with a bit of caramel and maybe coffee. There's a bit of hops in the aftertaste, but primarily just malty bitterness. The flavor does not correspond to the mouthfeel though, which is surpisingly thin. Malt fans will like it, as that's 90% of the flavor, but I prefer a more well rounded beer.
