As a natural foods store, Harvest Moon is a 4.5. I always find plenty of great stuff to stock up on that can't be found closer to home. But as a 50-minute-drive beer run, it's not even close to being a favored destination. This is another of those places where the alcohol selection hugely favors wine over beer.
The beer selection is small, about 15 different kinds on the room-temperature shelf, with some of those duplicated plus 5 to 10 more in the refrigerator. The choices lean heavily toward English ales and the more common US stuff like Blue Moon, Yuengling and Pete's Wicked. I've never seen Victory, Dogfish Head, Weyerbacher or Stone stuff here. Sometimes you'll find a Franziskaner or Spaten, and I was turned onto Weeping Radish's Black Radish here (a fairly local favorite which was totally gone last time I checked).
The prices are average to pricey. Seems like beer is an afterthought, and while I'm glad to see a beer selection with no A-B or Coors crap present, it's still lacking (especially compared to the large wine selection). I usually check it out, pick up a bottle or 6-pack at most, then drive 45 minutes farther north to Blacksburg, where the Vintage Cellar selection is still the best in the state.
