12 oz. bottle (thanks to kjkinsey) poured into a tulip glass. Dark brown appearance with shallow tan head that dissipated quickly. No lacing. Aromas of toasted malt, black coffee, metallic/mineral. Nice dark coffee flavors, dark chocolate, a little bit nutty and sweet like roasted pecans, and some tea-like puckering tannins in there as well. Like the smell, there's a mineral quality in the taste. Moderate carbonation with larger bubbles. Mouthfeel is light and refreshing, as with many lagers. Clean finish. Somewhat watery. Flavors are good but don't linger very long. Highly drinkable.I've become a fan of this style lately; and so it's always good to try another interpretation when possible.

A-very dark brown, translucent around the edges. thin cream colored head

S-smells like smoked coffee malts. medium strength

T-comes in with thick coffee malts that are slightly smoked with a slight taste of chocolate. it rides the line of some baltic porters. the taste of grinded coffee remains. it gets slightly bitter and goes in to a matching after-taste. the tastes all are of decent quality and medium strength.

M-medium carbonation with a dry finish

O-well this is definitely a good tasting beer. its fairly mild yet fairly exciting at the same time. its refreshing to get this sort of taste from the low ABV and lager format. i'm impressed with this attempt at the style.

A - Very dark brown with bright ruby highlights when held up to light. Head is about an inch thick, light brown, with lots of little bubbles. Head slowly fades to about a 1/4 inch cap.

S - Big bready aroma with light toasted notes. Aroma sweetens as the beer warms. A light herbal and earthy quality exists as well.

T - Strong toasted bread taste up front with more roasted notes coming through as the beer warms. Very malt forward beer here. Light earthiness from the hops provide some balance. Lightly bitter finish from the roastiness coming through.

M/D - A little on the thin side. Good carbonation and well balanced flavors make it very drinkable.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into pint glass.

A- A great head poured on this beer that stuck around for a little while before staying as a layer of foam. True to its label it is a black lager.

S- a hint of chocolate and a dark malty smell.

T- a good solid smokey flavor. It was not no harsh like some dark beers. I could taste the malt coming through.

M- for a dark beer, it was pretty light as it went down the hatch.

D- not bad. i could not drink more than a few.

A - Pours a dark brown with a frothy tan head that dissipates quickly.

S - Roasted malts, earthy smoked peat, hints of stale coffee grounds

T - Sweeter than the nose implies. Roasted malts, burnt sugar, bits of cocoa and coffee. Smoky hop bitterness comes quick and coats the mouth. Roasty and bitter on the finish.

M - Light to medium body, good carbonation.

Definitely not boring. The smoky bitterness adds a nice pop as well as the roasted malts. This would pair nicely with a grilled steak.

My first review, so let's see how this goes. Poured out of a 12 oz. bottle into a shaker pint glass.

Dark black color with an unexpectedly impressive tan head. Unfortunately faded quickly, but I blame that partly on the glass.

Smell was more or less nonexistant, maybe a hint of cocoa? Taste was nice - faint chocolate malt dominated each sip.

Grabbed a chocolate chip cookie during the last third of the glass, which was a pleasant addition to the mix. You can't say no to homemade cookies.

Nothing too extreme here, but better than I expected. Solid B.

Served on-tap in a pint glass. Dark brown body, clear, with a one-finger mocha head. The head dissipates fairly quickly leaving only specks of lacing.

Decent aroma of roasted malt, licorice, and dark fruit. Not a lot more to offer here.

The flavor has a nice roasted malt flavor, as well, and comes across sweeter than I would have expected from the aroma. Some chocolate in the flavor as well and the aforementioned dark fruit.

The mouthfeel has a much more thin and light consistency than I would have desired. Overall, a decent brew.
