From Notes. Had on week trip to Ft. Worth, TX.

Appearance: Poured from 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Thin 1/4 inch head, off white a little fizzy kinda like soda; disappears quickly. Beer is dark brown.

Smell: Some dark fruit, and a hint of smoke. Also as I get mid way through the six pack I start to pick up black licorice. Something a bit funky here. Just not digging the smell.

Taste: Mild taste. A little dark, roasted, malts (burnt caramel and smoked barley is the best I can describe it). Little to no bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Lighter in body than expected, but not too watery. Good carbonation.

Drinkability: Easy drinker, I enjoyed my 6-pack. Drinkable yes, but not real memorable.

Dark dark brown, translucent at the edges, no head (actually, I turned my head and missed it) and carbonation is tough to see, even on a clear top. Smell is coffee, toasty malt, and burnt sugars just the way it should be. Taste is roasted malt, bitter and wet along the edges. The beer lacks body, mouthfeel suffers a touch from the wet edges. This is an easy to drink and satisfying beer that just needs a few improvements to be an excellent schwarzbier.

Picked up in OneBoxBIF from assurbanipaul. Thank you.

Ugly Pug has a 1 1/2" creamy tan head on top of a dark brown liquid that has ruby highlights. The head eventually recedes to a creamy 1/2" and has very good retention. Good lace.

Aroma of burnt toastmingles with a tinge of something metallic. There is a hop twang in the aroma as well. These seem to be two completely seperate and opposite smells, they never reall seem to converge. In an odd way there is a layer of burnt aromas and a layer of hop aromas (make sense?).

The taste follows the nose in that the creamy burnt character seems to take the forefront. Salty? Nutty. Charred, grilled flavor. Very appealing. This is not a typical roasted, earthy flavor; this is burnt!

Rich, full creamy mouthfeel. Very different from the other two or three schwarzbiers I have tried. This one is a little more robust. Good drinkability. Left me wanting another bottle.

Brown-black, tan cappuccino head that holds a ring but no lace.

Smell is burnt chocolate malts.

Taste is toffee, chocolate, adn roasted barley, with a bit of an off sweetnes.

Highly carbonated and medium bodied.

OVerall, an ok schwarzbier, but not the best. A decent beer

A-black yet looks clear with a red tint up to the light. It has a brown head that faded quickly and leaves very little lacing
S-roasted malt with a brown sugar aroma
T-Light roasted taste that was somewhat malty and had a slightly hop bitter aftertaste that faded back to a roast finish
M-watery with low carbonation, and medium body
O-has flavor and was a good beer

Appearance: Deep brown, nearly black at times, with dull ruby highlights. On top, a decent off-white head that leaves little lacing.

Aroma: Earthy roasted malt with hints of coffee and chocolate. A little thin.

Taste: Much the same. The flavor profile is earthy, smokey, nutty, and mildly bitter malt accompanied by coffee and chocolate notes. Nothing much in the way of hops. While complex, it's still somewhat thin most of the time. The aftertaste is relatively intense and tastes of roasted grains.

Mouthfeel: Too light for my preferences. The carbonation is pretty sharp, but not too biting.

Drinkability: With a light body, somewhat thin (yet tasty) flavor, and low alcohol content, this goes back quickly.

Verdict: A nice enough beer, but not my favorite Texan Black Lager (that award goes to Shiner 97). Everything here is tasty enough, but there's just not enough of it if you catch my drift. If this was just a little more intense and full, it could be a winner.

On tap at Gordon Street Tavern in Alvin, Texas.

Easy to taste the chocolate and coffee... at least to me.

Not much alcohol taste. Smells good.

This is really easy to drink, especially for a dark beer. I'll have another some time, though it wasn't love at first taste.

A - After an aggressive pour there is almost no head. What little there is dissipates fast into one little ring that leaves light splotchy lace on the glass. Color is dark brown.

S - Roasted malts, bitter chocolate, earthy minerals, and a little bit of hops. Pretty mild.

T - Very bland, some roasted malts, dry bitter chocolate, more bitter than anything. Very disappointing.

M - Flat and thin.

D - Overall this beer was a disappointment, I tried three bottles of the six pack so far and they all turned out the same way, I was hoping just one or two bottles were duds or something. This beer tastes and feels like it's been sitting in an open glass in the fridge for the last few days.
