It looked the part. Unfiltered. Mostly lemony, tart smell, with some malt. Taste of citrus more than any thing else. Feel was right to me. Smooth, crisp. I just mowed yard after 12 at work. Probably drank way to fast. It's a keeper.

12 oz. bottle poured into wheat beer glass

L: hazy-but-clear pale orange with very small head, maybe 1/4 of an inch of offwhite foam that doesn't stick; keeps a decent collar to start with; the color and haze is classic, but even a hard pour rendered almost no head

S: banana, slight clove spice, sweet enough to almost reach bubblegum but not quite; nose is much sweeter than the taste; grain, sour grain, but the banana overpowers all else; the clove note is very tame

T: banana right up front, not overly sweet ... in fact, there's a bit of lemon tartness; grain; some clove spice in there, but it's very restrained

F: crisp but still with a bit of that classic hefe softness; perfect drinking beer and made for a good, long session

O: Rahr holds claim to some German heritage, and they put forth a solid German-style brew here that hits all the major notes ... lots of banana, a bit of clove, a good mouthfeel reminiscent of the classic hefes ... I love it. The hallmark for me is the restrained clove, keeping it firmly on the German side of the wheat family and not into the Belgian witbier family. Great brew and one I'll grab annually.

Pours a cloudy, golden/copper color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Good retention and slight lacing. Smells of wheat, yeast, sweet malt, coriander, hint of clove, and hint of hop. Fits the style of a Hefeweizen. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, wheat, slight yeast, slight coriander, and a hint of clove. Overall, decent appearance, aroma, and blend. The body is too sweet and yet, the spice is too strong.

A- Pale gold in color with notable white head, quite hazy, splotchy lacing.

S- Good mix of bubblegum and spice notes from the yeast. A slight dried grass/hay scent.

T- Light bubblegum into malt sweetness. Spice comes in mid-sip and persists. Light bubblegum and spice aftertaste.

M- Very creamy/smooth. Kind of watery in finish.

O- Good balance of 'hefe' flavors, both just subtle enough as to not overwhelm.

The appearance is foggy but rich. It's a nice, dirty blonde.

The smell was so good I handed it over to my dad, who raised his eyebrows. There's something peculiar about the smell, despite it's greatness.

The taste is wonderful and full. It shoots straight into the air and then branches out, like upside down roots!

The mouthfeel is neither crisp nor soft, but it lacks nothing because the fizz keeps your mouth busy. Normally, fizz would be too much, but it has bread-like thickness that subdues the large bubbles. It's thick without being slimy.

I love Summer beers!

I'm not big on wheat beers, but this one is decent. It's all around moderate, but it is better than most wheat beers. Tastes the best when out by the pool or on the lake, when it's hot outside. But there are better beers out there and this one isn't memorable, at least for me it wasn't.

I drank this from a tulip...

It is a light golden orange with a filmy white head that quickly faded. The clove smell is dominant with a background of orange peel wheat and banana. The taste again, has lots of clove yeast banana and wheat. The beer is kind of thick for the style with low carbonation and a dry finish. This is an impressive wheat beer coming from Rahr, very tasty.

A What a beautiful looking beer. Pours a hazy dark golden with a nice healthy head.

S First thing I smell is bananas, then cloves and lastly the wheat.

T Just like it smells. Bananas, cloves and wheat. Decent beer.

M Nice carbonation. Clean finish.

O Nothing special, but it's a nice refreshing summer beer.

The beer pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma is wheat with a little bit of banana and clove. I can tell this is a hefeweizen, but the aromas are not very strong. The flavor is mainly wheat, with a little bit of pepper and banana. I don't really get any clove in the flavor. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Honestly my first experience with this was bad. A couple of days later I went in for another try. Same results.

The super-clovey smell, to me, is a huge turnoff. Appearance was fine, M and D were average, I just didn't like the smell and flavor. Almost has a home brew gone-bad kinda flavor. I really wanted to like this one because it is a local for me. Too bad.

12oz bottle into a Unibroue tulip.

Summertime Wheat pours like a good Hefeweizen should--cloudy, with a hazed peach-orange body and a fervent carbonation level that supplies the spittle-white head. The rye adds an interesting, spicy dimension to the aroma, while signature Hefe yeast notes of banana and clove dominate the bouquet. Sweet mandarin orange makes an appearance as well.

The rye REALLY works for the flavor, adding a rich, dry spiciness to the palate that blends well with the sweeter, creamier wheat notes. Lots of tropical fruit notes, too--papaya, banana, and a hint of orange cremesicle. Mouthfeel is significantly carbonated, so much so that it detracts somewhat from the flavor. Light-bodied and refreshing otherwise. All in all, Summertime Wheat is a tasty American Hefeweizen with a nice twist. Might have to try homebrewing a rye hefe sometime myself.

A - Golden color with lots of little bubbles. Very thin, white foam head forms on top and quickly dissipates. No lacing to speak of.

S - Big aroma of banana, clove, and a little bubble gum. Smells like your typical Hefe.

T - Very plain tasting hefe. A light spiciness initially quickly overcome by yeasty tastes of banana and clove. The banana lingers through the remainder of the drink. Finishes with a light sweetness and hints of wheat.

M/D - Light bodied, even a little thin. Very crisp. Not a bad hefe at all, just very middle of the road.

Reviewed 8/24/2007 (bottle):

Pours a humungous white foamy head, with good lacing. Body is golden cloudy, light yellow in color, fizzy. Has a very malty aroma, but very light, not too strong. Has a malty sweet taste. Light, straw, maybe clove. Alright but watery, weakish.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, yellow-orange body with a thin, bubbly, white head.

Smell: Wheaty, tangy nose with notes of sliced lemons and bananas spiced with freshly-ground cloves.

Taste: Tangy malted wheat with the customary, complimentary side flavors of banana, lemon, clove, and even vanilla all make an appearance. Middling sweetness throughout. Light hop character and bitterness. Meager spicy rye component. Dry, lemony finish.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.

Drinkability: Summertime, and the drinking is easy.

From a brown 12oz bottle - Pours a cloudy light pale color with almost no head and well below average carbonation. Smells of floral hops and very light malts. First sip is sweet and perfumy like with a very light malt backbone. Very light bodied, lightly hopped. Somewhat under carbonated. Bitter finish.

Thanks to assurbanipaul for this one.

Poured a 12oz bottle into my New Belgium globe. This beer pours a hazy orangish amber with a 1 inch white head that quickly disappeared and left no lacing. The aroma is rather weak. Just a hint of clove and nutmeg come through on the nose. The taste is different though. The oddly overwhelming flavor I get from it is pineapple. Also clove, nutmeg, banana, really all the traditional Hefe flavors with a splash of pineapple. There is also a mildly acidic after taste. The mouthfeel is light and mildly carbonated. Like with most wheat's, it's hard to knock the drinkability of it because its a wonderful thing on a warm summers day.

A - Clear dull gold color with tiny bit of white head and no lacing

S - Banana,cloves, and wheat

T - Kind of bland malty taste with some wheat mixed in

M - Medium body with medium carbonation

D - I'd pass on this one, while not the worse hefeweizen I've ever had it is towards the bottom

My hometown brewery seems to be doing pretty well. I am a fan of the Bucking Bock. Now I'll give the Summertime Wheat a try.

Appears a pretty golden color. Cloudy oranges and yellows swirled together shine bright when held up to the natural light of the window. A white foamy head emerges after a vigorous pour but dissipates quickly into a thin film over the beer. The nose is light and fruity. Citrus, banana, apple, a hint of spice (maybe cinnamon, maybe clove) impart a pleasant feeling when you lift the glass to your nose. The taste doesn't quite deliver with the same gusto. Nice and wheaty, with some fruit and spices here too, but thinner than expected. A bit watery but with a tart and tangy aftertaste. Certainly not bad, but not great. Mouthfeel is, again, watery at times, but crisp and refreshing.

A totally quaffable summertime beer. I wouldn't hesitate to reach for this if I was headed to an outdoor barbeque or a day at the lake. Would go great with some grilled chicken or even a nice hot bratwurst.

Received this in trade from Texindy, thanks for the opportunity.

Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a smallish white head that dissipated quickly. Smells of spicy yeast and a bit of banana. Bready sweet malt in the background. Taste is as would be expected from a hefe. The spicy yeast esters dominate, throw in some faint lemon and banana. A bit watery body, sweet sticky mouthfeel. Not a bad brew, not great but I could down several of these on a hot summers day.

A- Pours a cloudy light golden color with a small white head that quickly goes away and leaves very little lacing.

S- Banana and cloves jump right out at me. Also maybe a grassy or yeasty smell.

T- Not too bad. More on the sweet side than the bitter. Starts out with a grassy taste, then goes into a fruity taste lemons and bananas and then finishes with just a touch of spice.

M- Medium in body with just the right amount of carbonation.

D- Pretty smooth and chewy. Easy to drink on a hot day.

12 oz bottle into my UFO glass. A two finger head bubbles up and sits upon a cloudy gold liquid. A nice touch of lacing here and there as I drink, with light carbonation visible.

Smell is lemony with a hint of banana. A faint astringency in there somewhere. Wheat malt sweetness underlying it all.

Taste is more lemon and wheat malt. Sour apple comes next with a light hop bite. Banana in the finishing notes with a bit more sourness. Light and clean with a drying astringency left on the palate.

Light mouthfeel and creamy carbonation makes for a nice experience.

Good drinkability. Easy to session.

Thanks to Stumac for this one. A good hefe. One to enjoy and be refreshed by.

Pours light gold with short lived white head. Smell is just like every other hefeweizen with the clovey spiced smell. Taste however is actually quite unique, but not in a great way. Taste is sweet, watery, and bright lemony, with very low carbonation and almost no bitterness. Thin and watery, with a bit of clove taste, but not as strong as many hefeweizens. This is a different hef for sure. I'm not a fan of the style, but this may be worth trying just in that it is unique...Tastes like what I expect a bad homebrewed hef would be like.

A - Gold, slightly hazy with a thin creamy head. Maybe I poured it wrong.

S - Banana aroma dominates.

T - Light and crisp. Starts off malty sweet, the banana flavors replace it.

M - Well carbonated.

D - This is a great Texas summer time beer. There's not much aftertaste, but still loads of flavor. Extremely drinkable. I just wish I didn't have to drive an hour and a half to buy it!

Poured from a 12oz bottle with no dating system into my weizen glass. It was a hazy golden color with tons of carb. It had a massive head that slowly settled into a constant 3/16" foam. The smell was standard hefe with cloves and medium overripe bananas but was kinda weak. The taste was also standard hefe but again sorta weak and watered down. Overall an above average beer but with so many great hefes out there this one won't see a regular spot in my rotation. (3.5, RB, T, O)

This beer was sent to me by my good buddy TTU94 from big D in Texas.

First of all, love the story behind the brewery. The beer however is not quite there if your talking true Bavarian Wheat Ale.

The color is spot on and got me a bit excited as I poured into my pint glass. The head was thin and dissipated rapidly with no lacing to speak of.

The smell had the Bavarian standard of banana and cloves, but was a bit on the light side.

The taste however is where I felt the beer has some room for improvement. The overall qualities of a Bavarian Wheat are present but they are all in minimal quantities. Comparing to other Bavarian Wheats, I would have to say that it is slightly below average.

Having said that, I still liked it enough that I could see myself in Dallas in a few weeks with TTU94 drinking a case or two.

Just so you don't think I'm bashing a Texas beer, I graduated from Tech. Go Big Red!
