12oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a good-sized, head of fluffy white foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of citrus, floral notes, caramel and malt. Sweet malty taste with caramel and toffee. A light piney bitterness.

From tasting notes 09/21/17, had on-tap at Gas Monkey Bar & Grill in the Dallas, TX Airport
Appearance - Served up in a pint. Fair clarity and golden orange in color. Good amount of lacing sticks to the glass in broken sheeting.
Smell - Aroma hits on notes of orange and grapefruit with fair breadiness beneath.
Taste - Follows the nose. Orange bite with a touch of grapefruit rind. Light, generic white bread sweetness. Aftertaste lingers with fair bitterness.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Goes down well enough with a dry finish.
Overall - A run-of-the-mill IPA that doesn't do much to excite the taste buds- fairly plain as far as the style goes. It's drinkable in the least.

[Reviewed from notes taken in Fall 2014.]
$4.50 per 33cl on-draught at Cricket's Bar in Lubbock, TX.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: 1 finger in height. Off-white colour. Creamy, smooth, even, soft, and nicely frothy. Leaves a perfect coating of thick even lacing on the sides of the glass as it recedes. Good (~6 minute) retention.
BODY: Dark murky copper of average vibrance. No yeast/sediment is visible within. Translucent. Barely transparent.
Looks okay for an IPA.
AROMA: Pale malts, caramalt, floral hop character, and hints of grassy and herbal hop character.
No overt yeasty notes or off-notes are detectable. I find no overt booze.
An inoffensive aroma of below average intensity.
TASTE: Pleasant bubblegum phenols and floral hop flavours. Pale malts. Caramalt. Bubblegum dominates to its detriment. Hop pugency is lacking. It's quite simple for an IPA, erring on the maltier side.
No yeasty flavours, off-flavours, or overt booze comes through.
Enjoyable for what it is, but imbalanced on a fundamental level - needs more hoppy flavour and less malty & phenolic flavour.
Average depth. duration, and intensity of flavour.
I'm not a big fan. Lacks cohesion. Not a gestalt whole of a beer.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, overcarbonated, and a bit too thick and hefty on the palate. ABV is poorly concealed.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, harsh, rough, scratchy, or astringent.
Has a poor overall presence on the palate, failing to complement the taste well to any real extent.
OVERALL: A poorly executed stab at an IPA from Rahr & Sons. I wouldn't touch this again, and its low quality reduces its drinkability.

Served on tap in Dallas, Texas, into a conical pint glass.
A: Pours a crystal clear gold to amber color with a one finger, off-white head, decent retention, and solid rings of sticky lacing.
S: Very minimal aromas, but can imagine grapefruit, caramel, and pine.
T: Semidry and citrusy. More orange than grapefruit on the palate. Bitterness lingers to achieve dry and crisp finish.
M: Medium bodied and moderate carbonation.
O: A decent, if unremarkable IPA.

The aesthetics of this beer are exceptional. Great color, almost purely golden rust in its hue. Quality head and a fantastic aroma. The drink is somewhat underwhelming. Not a full IPA taste, wrong feel to the bite, and and the aftertaste is far too coppery. A capable IPA, but nothing more.

I am not an IPA fan, but Rahr and Sons, my favorite brewery, has a tasty one. It pours into a frothy, white head. Very drinkable despite being an IPA. Color is darker than most IPAs, too.
