"O'zapft is!" The cry of happy beer drinkers at the start of the of the Munich Oktoberfest, which in German means "The keg is tapped!" Rahr's Oktoberfest Celebration Lager is a traditional Marzen-style Oktoberfest lager - dark amber in color, super smooth, medium body with a sweet malty finish. True to tradition, this is a classic Oktoberfest Lager.

Clear amber pour with a cream colored cap. Sweet toasted malts meet bread and biscuit in nose. Taste adds earthy hops in the finish. Feel is malty and moderately crisp, pretty clean but also forgettable, no breadiness to speak of. Solid crushable marzen

12 oz can.

Pours a clear amber color with a finger of off-white head. Pretty solid retention. Leaves a ring of lacing around the glass.

Aromas of roasted malt, caramel, toasted bread and honey.

The flavor brings notes of sweet dough, caramel, honey, and faint hops. A bit sweet.

The feel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Creamy and dry on the finish.

Overall, this is a pretty solid Oktoberfest lager. It's a bit too sweet, but it's drinkable.

L-Amber in color with a thin head on the pour.
S-Typical aromas at first. Malty sweet, caramel, cracker, biscuit, wheat and honey on the nose at first. Toasty as expected at the end. I pick up a little wet newspaper as well, and adjunct beer grainy rice notes.
T-Sweet malt, honey, grain and some buttery notes. Not bad. A bit watered down at the end and am left wanting a little more, but not bad.
F-Medium bodied.
O-I have a certain nostalgia for this brewery. It was one of the first local crafts I picked up when I moved to north Dallas years ago. This beer is fine, and I gave it a shot because of my affinity for the brand. Probably won't have again, but it wasn't awful. Just kind of dull.

Nice amber color to this brew with a thinning then to a ring head. Sweet yet toasty malts with a hoppy undertone on the nose, this is good so far. Maybe slightly to caramel leaning but good with a sweet then slightly bitter turning finish. This is sort of what I’m looking for in these brews. Thicker body with less carbonation. Good brew here.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a nice dark orange amber-red color with a small head of fizzy white foam. The head fades rather fast leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is of a toasted malt small mixed with lots of caramel and some light dark fruit smells of plum and raisin. Along with these smells comes a little bit of a brown sugar as well as a hint of wood and earth.
Taste – The taste begins quite sweet with lots of caramel, which is matched with some brown sugar and fruit of both a dark fruit nature (raisin and plum) and light harvest fruit (pear and apple). At the same time there is a bit of lightly toasted breadiness and doughiness as well, with all these flavors holding strong throughout the taste. As the taste moves from the initial, there is a little bit of hay and earth that work their way in. The sweet caramel and fruit surges at the very end, leaving one with a rather sweet and lightly toasted taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average. Overall the feel is nice for the style and makes for an easy drinker.
Overall – A sweeter, slightly less malty, and very drinkable Oktoberfest. Overall a nice drinker.

Poured 2 chilled cans into a maß. Cans dated 7/11/21.

Look: Pours a classic deep copper but with some opaqueness. Fluffy egg shell head that lingers well after the pour with noticeable lacing.

Smell: Somewhat muted compared to others of the style but still has the toasted malt and some grain/caramel notes up front.

Taste: Follows the nose and is also a bit muted. Begins with the aforementioned toasted malt as well as some light caramel and dark bread. Not an overly sweet malt but still good. Finishes with a slight bit of spice with earthy character from the hops but is gone pretty quickly.

Feel: Medium body with moderate carbonation. Very easy to drink, does not linger long on the tongue.

Overall: A pretty good rendition with a bit of a bigger kick on the ABV. What I like most about this beer is that the malt isn't overly sweet which tends to be the downfall of other American versions of märzens. Could stand to have a bit more punch with the aroma/flavor but this is a beer I consistently go back to for a local Oktoberfest.

This brew is from my favorite, local brewery, so I get it pretty fresh. It is a somewhat small brewery, but they have some outstanding beers. I wish this one would be offered for a longer period of time, but am happy to sip it's full-mouth and fruity taste.

Wow, we are into October and time for the Marzens.
