Has that coke/ tea color. I didn’t get any head. Has only a faint aroma that really doesn’t give any impression. Taste is clean but doesn’t excite me for another.
Mouthfeel is fine but overall I wouldn’t buy this.

Pours to a generous and permanent head that laces and lasts, Deep amber brown color. Aroma is traditional German decoction mashed malts. Flavor is malty and very much in line with the style. Long malty, finish with residual alcohol bite and sweetness. Low CO2 is nice. Spot on German Doppelbock.

Thanks hophound for carting this one out to me.
Deep brown in color, sandy loose head, lite lacing.
Smell is straight up German, from the continent, Doppelbock. sweet brown bread, hints of fig, and hints of burnt sugar.
Taste follows the nose loyally.Sweet dark malts. Again brown bread. And more fig, date, and even a hint of raisin.
Mouthfeel is full, almost creamy. Low carbonation.
Overall, I think this is the first American Doppelbock that I felt could pass it off to my Bavarian friends as one of theirs.

Poured into dimpled seidel.

Appearance: Nice small head, medium beige. Dark opaque amber brown.

Nose: A little sweet, cut with dark grain.

Taste: Caramel sweetness is balanced with bitter chocolate, dark bread, dark fruit desserts.

Mouth: Chewy but medium. Finish is a little dry.

Was pleasantly surprised by how well R&S pulled this off. This is some good doppelbock.

22 oz. bottle poured into pilsener
(2016 vintage)

L: murky brown pouring out of bottle, distinctly not clear; pushes up about an inch of beige/tan foam; no sticking, no lacing, keeps a thick tan collar of foam and part of a skin

S: buttery cinnamon roll, dusty dried fruits of dates ... dust is much like the dusty dark-malt sweetness of a Belgian dubbel/quad; sweetness is fantastic

T: dark dried fruits, prunes, dates, figs, sweet raisin roll; ice cold it has a slight medicinal bite to it, but it doesn't have to warm much for that to disappear and let loads of sweeter dark-malt flavors pour through; pinch of buttery cinnamon roll; as it warms, the raisin flavor becomes a bit more prominent

F: midweight, almost ale soft but not from lack of carbonation -- the carbonation pushes up a decent collar that you drink through, and the relatively small-bubble-feeling carbonation in the liquid creates an "airy" mouthful ... comes off very nearly like I think of for doppels

O: a near-perfect facsimile of the German style, so good I'll definitely seek out more of this one; settles into the exact flavor profile I think of as the "lighter" doppelbock, not overly raisiny and no where near licorice but more like a Belgian dubbel with prunes/dates and buttery cinnamon rolls coming to mind; the murky look is very American craft, definitely not authentic; the more Rahr's I try, the more I find myself turning to them over and over, and this beer continues that trend

Pours an effervescent scarlet/chestnut with tan head. Nice lacing & head retention

S: Brown bread, figs, faint carob

T: A little molasses, brown bread, & some caramel up front. More brown bread, figs, leafy hops, dryness & a whisper of boozeyness once warm. Finishes fruity, a little dry with nice breadyness

MF: Kind of chewy, slight carbonation,

Nice take on the style, flavors & other factors measure up well

2016 Limited Release. Poured from the bomber into a regular pint glass at 50F. Light khaki head sticks around for a few minutes then dwindles down to a thick bubbly film. Body is brown/amber with a crimson red hue. On the nose I get caramel, wheat, slight smokiness, and pilsner malts, giving it an interesting twist when coming to the taste. I get caramel right up front, molasses, very ripe plum, finishing bitter, almost like blackberries covered in caramel. The body is medium with moderate carbonation, but it's more body and less carbonation, making it feel nice and silky. Getting tastier as it warms; more dynamic. Starting to get a breadiness- a wheat breadiness, with the carbonation and body creating the silky feel like butter, it feels/tastes like a buttered blackberry wheat muffin with caramel drizzled on top. Oh yes this is breakfast beer. 8.5%! Honestly I didn't think I would like it. I love it, and I'll be back for more.

Appearance: Clear deep claret in color, with a moderate, cream-colored head, which, while robust, slowly fades to a dusting of foam on the surface. A thick veil of unbroken, fine-beaded lacing coats the glass walls.

Aroma: Notes of leather, sweet tobacco, raisins, plums and dark bread present in the aroma.

Taste: Opens with prominent notes of dark caramel, soon followed by hints of herbal hops. As the taste progresses, there is a little smoke and earth. Later in the taste, there is a tangy note of burnt caramel. Finishes with a lengthy earthy and smoky note.

Mouth feel: Soft and very full, quite pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: Very pleasant and drinkable, though it sends me to a cool autumn evening, rather than a warm mid-spring.

Presentation: Packaged in a twenty-two ounce brown glass bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Appearance: Dark brown almost black glass doesn't hold a head, shows some clarity.

Smell: Rich malt, a German mineral water edge, and lots of sweet toffee and burnt sugars.

Taste: Very sweet, candy like toffee with some mild grape skin tannins. Comes across as clean and simple, lingering finish.

Feel: Medium heavy, oily, low carbonation bordering on flat.

Overall: Needs a little more carbonation, and it's a little one dimensional, but a tasty sweet malty sipper.
