Appearance: Cloudy, light orange.
Smell: not really noticeable with the glasses the brewer served in. Some grape.
Taste. Very light grape, mellon maybe. Honey. Peppercorn, alcohol aftertaste. Slight burn.

This is really good. It's certainly not in the particulars, but the total experience is very enjoyable. It's smooth at first, with a bite at the end. I would get this again.
Oddly, the bottle states it's a blonde ale.and it's closer to that than tripel. I will say this, of you let warm, the grape smell and taste really comes out. However, it is surprising much much better cold.

I do love me some peppercorn beers. This one has peppercorn written all over it. The nose has some Belgian yeast banana-y esters, more so than the taste. Sweet malt and banana flavors are balanced by peppery spice and alcohol. In the end, it's over-carbonated and it needs food, but if you like peppercorn, and weird beers, it's worth a try.

Pepper plant 101, green peppercorns are simply the unripened peppercorns from the pepper plant. The liveliest of the bunch when it comes to head size and retention, as a massive dollop of meringue-like head forms from a normal pouring and does not want to leave. Lightly hazed, pale golden hue. A spicy note forms both the alcohol and peppercorn in the nose, a bit of a fresh veggie, peach juice and yeast twang as well. Deep smoothness on the palate, moderately sized body. Spicy right from the start, but always mellow and never over the top. Complexities reach new heights with suggestions of evergreen, peach orchard and raw honey. Malt lays down a light biscuity base with a light bready finish. Hops pair up very well with the green peppercorn and do more than just balance; spiciness eventually hooks up with the alcohol, which has its own pepper tone and fruity warmth. Finishes a little juicy and mildly spicy, a pleasant ending.

Controlled chaos is the best way to describe this beer. Extreme beer at its best. It's not over the top, but captures a traditional style and adds a very interesting twist to it. Easy enough to drink on its own, as the alcohol is very deceiving, but we're sure that there is a plethora of foods to pair with this beer too.

750ml corked bottle. Opens with a loud pop and pours a hazy sunrise yellow/orange with a two finger white creamy, bubble head. Lots of active carbonation rises up with good lacing. Aromas start out with crisp light grain malts along with fruity, citric accents. There's a spicy, earthy yeast presence along with a noticeable peppercorn element as well. A bit mellow overall from what I was expecting.

First sip brings a crisp malt upfront along with a mix of light fruity flavors. Nice citric accents that move into a yeasty spiciness with clove accents. The pepper is there and brings a mellow spice kick, but it is not as forward as I expected. Flows down with a nice bitterness and a spicy yeast kick. Quite malt forward.

Mouthfeel is on the lighter side, while still being smooth and creamy with good fast moving carbonation. Overall, an easy drinking brew, however I was hoping for more of a peppery, spicy kick out of this one personally. Glad I was able to sample it. Thanks to MuenchenerKindl for the trade.

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle. A very interesting sounding beer.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. It looks about like a tripel should. The flavor is heavy on the pepper with some citrus notes. It is not a black pepper flavor, but it is more similar to white pepper. Judging by the name, I guess green pepper is similar to white pepper. The flavor is pepper, flowers, wheat, alcohol and citrus. Very nice. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Pours a cloudy yellow with a ton of head that trys to overflow my glass. The aroma is slightly spicy and stings my nostrils a little bit as I inhale. The taste is hard to describe. Slightly peppery to be sure, but the taste feels almost heavier on my tongue after I swallow. I think the beer also tastes slightly salty, like I need to wash it down with a glass of water. THe beer is extremely drinkable for something so strong. It's a little odd for a tripel, but one of my favorites in the style.

This is a very good triple! It has a very carbonated frothy head with a nice golden color in the glass. Hints of pepper and fruits add to the tastebuds on the back of your tongue. This does not have a noticable 9.20% ABV in your mouth. Enjoying it at The Brewer's Art (basement bar) makes this triple even better! This is a must have at The ART!

This was the forth beer we started with at a beer-tasting at my place.

A –Yellow/ fluid but still different than any other beer color I ever laid eyes on, with a nice head.

S – Smell of fresh hop with pepper.

T – There is definitely green pepper in this beer but the beer taste is beautiful fresh and balanced. Is there alcohol in this beer?

M – Very nice, a bubble explosion in your mouth.

O – What a fantastic different beer, a league of its own.

Yummy stuff. Pours light golden, cloudy colour. Mild peppercorn and spice aroma. Above average mouthfeel. The peppercorn is the star, but it is so drinkable, and well supported by the yeast and malting. I easily finished the bomber, slight lemon. A controlled spicyness. Thanks again M.-P.

Big thanks to ShogoKawada - wanted to try this for a while! Poured from a 750mL caged-and-corked bottle into my Bruery tulip.

Gold liquid, very lightly hazy and shot through with streaming bubbles whch support the two fingers of rocky ivory merengue. Thick soft soapy lacing, no legs.

Mouth-watering yeast aroma with biscuits, honey, and a floral note (or maybe rosewater?) in the nose.

Sweet malty palate entry, with the subtle but distinctive green peppercorn flavor emerging mid-palate. Moderately bitter (noble?) hops and some apricot-like notes from the alcohol leading into the finish which seems to alternate back and forth between sweet and dry with some spicy astringency throughout.

Just barely medium-bodied, quite effervescent (but not overcarbonated); warming but not hot; leaves your gums humming from the light pepper notes.

Hard to put the glass down, this is very drinkable for the ABV, and is actually one of the better domestic examples of the style I've tried.

Picked up a bottle at State Line in Maryland and split it with a friend. Poured a hazy gold with a tall white head that left lacing. Throughout the aroma and flavor, the peppercorn is obvious, but it never dominates the beer. Instead it does a great job of adding something a little different. This beer is otherwise a very smooth and subtle triple that reminds me of La fin du Monde for the gentle spices and occasional burst of sweet bread a light fruit flavors. Definitely try this beer if you can find it.

750 ml corked and caged bottle into several glasses.

Pours a fairly clear gold, with several huge foamy fingers of bright-white head. This stays rich and frothy, leaving massive foamy swathes of lace behind. The aroma is floral up front, with the green peppercorn really jumping out as this warms, along with some underlying notes of sweet fruit, bread, and yeast.

The taste is VERY sweet with fruit and bready sugars, along with a fairly light hop presence. This is pretty assertive with the yeast, finishing very dry with a touch of heat from the peppercorns. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a softer and easier carbonation that then sits on top of a much thicker and stickier feel. Alcohol is mostly well hid, just a

I liked the peppercorn element of this but it was nearly drown out by all of that overly sweet and borderline cloying stickiness at times. I've had this on draft a couple of times and it was much better than this bottled version.

If you like pepper and you like Belgians this is the ultimate! I just wish it was obtainable in more areas. I have only seen it in big bottles at Whole Foods and a few bars in Mid-Atlantic. Brewers Art beers are all very good and worth the trip to an out of the way place in Baltimore.

Now this was a different kind of blonde. Gold in color with a massive white foam head. Tastes like pepper and yeast. Has a burning finsh not like alcohol though but like ginger beer. The pepper make for a unique burning feel unlike anything I've ever had before with beer. This doesn't hurt the drinkability which is quite impressive. I think it would accompany tuna or salmon quite nicely

Caged and corked 750 poured into a Chimay goblet.

Appearance: Surprisingly very clear pale yellow. Thick 3/4" white head. Better thn average retention and amazing lacing down all sides of my glass. Quite a nice looking beer.

Aroma: Spicy, peppercorn, clove, light fruit, banana, biscuity malt.

Taste: Wow, the star of the show is the green peppercorn. Constant and distinct but it never seems over done. It meshes well with the lighter traditional flavors of a tripel. There is an underlying spice character and clove with some light tropical fruitiness and some mild booziness. Interesting and fantastic. works weel.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth drinking given the ABV. Oncer again. Plenty of flavors, but not overwhelming. Not something you'd drink everyday, but it comes with a nice spicy and medium body that continues to the finish. The peppercorns being a constant presence from start to finish.

A corked and caged 750 mL bottle purchased at Shawan Liquors in December.

A: The tripel has a pale color, heavy on the yellow hue to the point that it looks like apple juice at times. A finger of head emerged on pour and clings sporadically around the glass.

S: The aroma is spicy, driven by the distinctive Belgian yeast, touches of anise and flowers. Oh yeah, the pepper is stronger than normal, as though a fresh pepepr mill topped off the glass.

T: A sip reveals lots of spices on the front of the tongue. The sweetness is unfocused, running the gamut from sweet honey to bitter licorice. The green peppercorns are sharp, very zesty and biting on the tongue. Long after the sip is gone, the tongue still feels the heat.

M: The sweetness upfront is a bit much but I suppose that it is needed to keep the peppercorns in check. The finish is the highlight.

D: The alcohol is limited, taste-wise, but after a while it really hits you. The peppery zest is a taste that I'd love to see more brewers use.

I've been eager to try this one for a while...

A - A full four fingers worth of active pure white colored head with a rocky top that is comprised of loads of big chunky bubbles... Quickly fades before showing solid retention at one fingers worth and ultimately leaving a full creamy lacing... The color is pale gold with a slight haze... A swirl of small bubbled carbonation rises in the center of the tulip with a couple of larger bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass...

S - Gummi bears... A bit of candied sugars... A faint touch of yeast... The green peppercorn notes are subtle, but add a very nice layer of complexity... Unique and rather pleasant, but a bit timid...

T - Belgian yeast... Candied sugars... Honey.. A bit soapy... A touch of lemon zest... Perhaps some pear... The green peppercorns are even more restrained on the palette but still and an interesting dimension and depth...

M - Sharp carbonation from the get go... Medium bodied... A touch of alcohol dryness on the finish...

D - The green peppercorns aren't the dominate player, only a supporting one... However, they add a wonderful complexity and make for a rather unique offering... Another job well done by Brewer's Art...

Poured from a corked/caged 750 ml bottle "best by 4/8/13" on back label. Did not know this beer was brewed in Royersford Pa as stated on bottle. Assume @ Sly Fox Brewery??

A - Poured into Victory Golden Monkey tulip, straight. Big white, fluffy head that dissipated in a few. Murky straw color, lacing sticking around.

S - White/green pepper? belgian yeast nose, surely some candi sugar there.

T - Definitely pepper there on the back of the mouth with good dryness that I like in a tripel, but not too dry.

M - Light, dry, some bubbles, nothing left on the tongue or cheeks, good!

O - Give me more, several times a year, price is right for a well done style tripel.

Thanks to Chaney for this bottle in the awesome (Pumpkin Ale) box he sent my way!

A - Slightly hazy bright golden yellow with a billowing white head. Firm and well-retained, the white foam left some thick lace on the glass. The remainder of the bottle after sharing it is chock-full of sediment.

S - A little skunky to start with, it moves into a light candi sugar sweetness with the Belgian yeast aroma in tow. The peppercorns come out with a nice spicy aroma that blends with the spicy esters very well.

T - Bright and crisp with a heavy lingering sweetness, it's got lots of crystal malts and a shit-ton of candi sugar. Small hints of bananas and earthy clay comes out. The peppercorn is nice in this one!

M - Smooth and crisp initially with a medium body and a rich sweetness to the finish. Nice soft spice to the finish that balances the sweetness well. A little bit of the alcohol comes through retro-nasally.

D - Very drinkable for a tripe.l, it gets better as you sip it and the peppercorn is spectacular as an addition to the spicy tripel. A very nice brew! Thanks Chaney!

Poured from a corked & caged 750 mL bottle into a matchy-matchy Brewer's Art goblet. Moderate hand. Dated 1/9/15.

A: Hazy, golden yellow body with 1 finger of mostly white head. Ok retention. Very light lacing. A bit dull, but a nice hue.

S: Pungent green (as well as white, black) pepper intermingled with Belgian yeast. Lighter fruit notes, exhibiting a somewhat indistinct muddling of mango, apple, pear, peach. Spice, specifically coriander, makes an appearance. Faint straw, grass. Floral element.

T: Spicy with assertive peppercorn up front. Slowly yields to a balancing, noble hop-type bitterness and a dry finish. Nice lingering essence of pepper with fruity undertones in the aftertaste. Slightly boozy, but suits the beer well.

M: Moderate carbonation. A slight prickliness actually heightens the pepper notes. Moderate body.

O: Full disclosure: I thoroughly enjoy pepper flavors and this beer sits solidly in my wheelhouse. So admittedly, my scores might be somewhat inflated. The tripel/blonde backbone is good enough, but the peppercorns really shine on this one. I've had this quite a few times before and hope to have it many more times in the future.

Update: Revisited 2/12/2015 w/ bottle dated 10/28/15. Much less pepper and more typical tripel tropical fruit. Where'd all those sweet peppercorns go?

Brewer's Art Green Peppercorn Tripel has a cloudy orange colour and soapy, 15 mm head that really lasts. It has good carbonation too. The spell is yeasty but there is also the definite smell of spicy, grassy peppercorns. The Belgian yeast is very noticeable, like most good triple's but with a little more grassiness. Cardamon flavour dominates the finish. This beer is frothy in texture but it's a bit too much like soda for my liking. Overall, an interesting beer but not one I would want to drink that much of. Too much grass and spice for my palate.

Poured out of the bottle into a tulip glass. Been wanting this one for some time.

A real nice dark gold color body, with LOTS of foamy rock hard white head, shampoo like and soapy. Extensive carbonation out of the bottle and also lots of rising carbonation. Body color is just a little darker than the average Belgian Pale Ale, and this is quite clear.

Mild peppercorn. Feels just been crushed under foot with the spices crackling out of it. I want peppercorn steak NOW! Hint of Belgian candy like yeast, but pretty mild. This doesn't seem like a tripel more like a good Belgian pale ale.

Taste is light bodied pale ale Belgian style, with pepper in mid palate. Candied style sweetness on the finish, and lingering aromatics of crushed peppercorn herb. No heat, nice and balanced.

Really enjoy this and it's a dream food pairing with some sort of spiced moules and frites, or a classic peppercorn steak. Home run for sure, drinking this makes me hungry, but it doesn't feel like a real tripel to me, more like a solid Belgian Strong Pale Ale I think, but it makes me feel so good!!

750ml bottle poured into a Cigar City Snifter.

Pours a clear glowing gold with a white head that fades to a slight haze and ring. Aromas are fairly typical for a Tripel, lots of banana and clove, but not as much peppercorn as I'd hoped. Taste is a similar let-down, lots of banana, malt, and clove with a slightly spicy pepper sensation. Mouthfeel is fairly slick, with a medium-full body and decent carbonation. Overall a solid Tripel, but the main draw (peppercorns) is sadly absent.

hazy golden color with a light head of white that sat on top for only a few moments before settling down to reveal a bare head. Aroma is light, pears, figs, light spices and grainy notes, again nothing shocking or really coming out at me. Warming brings a hint of grapeskin. Taste was soft, mellow, full of grain and light yeast, a hint of pears and apples in the back, but just did not have a punch or a full enough profile for me to really fall for it. a: into the chalice it goes with a frothy white head atop a sunny golden, lightly hazed body, retained like a layer of meringue and dropping heavy lace on the glass walls

s: bright, sunny tripel with lots of florals and a firm but balanced current of young peppercorn on a malt body of yeasty white bread, powdery yeasts provide something of a rustic farmhouse side, slightly sweet candi sugars, fruits include green apple, white grape, peach, and sweet lemon, papery, aged noble hops, some sweet alcohol

m: carbonation lively but smooth on the light bodied beer

t: bready Belgian malt body holds a dab of sweetness and lots of activity - spicy green peppercorn, fruit flavors of white grape, green apple, and candied lemon, powdery yeasts with mild phenolics, papery hops with a clean, lightly bitter finish

d: not gonna be a problem, this is a high quality tripel and a pleasure to take in, the alcohol warms a bit but never really distracts, best beer I've had from Brewer's Art by far and one of the better American tripels around
