Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass.

A real nice clear nearly crystal shiny body, and one that is a very nice copper brown. Soft topped head, only about two fingers with very light khaki colored appearance. Uniform, very fine bubbles, but also good staying power.

Touches of dry spicy malt, and light toasted grains. Hints a bit of hot and burnt like sensing aroma, but also a good pleasurable spicy brown quality too. Hints a tad pine hop as well.

Palate comes a bit blasting. Sharp tasting mid palate that's quite hot like in feel and flavor. Faint touch of banana almost like ester with mixing malt depth of a rough crusty banana bread a bit. Very clean finish, with touches of bitter fruit quality but also a bit tingly sensing on the palate.

A pretty interesting rye brew, but comes a slightly bit jarring as well.

Dark amber color. Head dissipates completely, carbonation is quite low. Malty aroma. Taste, strangely, has notes of Belgian yeast—is this why Brewer's Art lists this as a Maryland Rye Ale compared to Beer Advocate's Rye Beer listing? The can also lists the ABV as 5.8%, not 4.8%. Those yeasty esters interfere with, rather than complement, the rye, in my opinion. —Reviewed 2017/10/17

RyePA pour: dark translucent amber. Decent head.

Smells of biscuity malt with a wee bit of rye tang. Almost smells like an English pale. Very little hop presence.

Tastes of bread, caramel, coffee, cigarettes, and rye. I got no idea what they were going for but it absolutely does not come together.

Pours dark for a rye beer. Doesn't have a ton of hops but some bread/yeast in the nose. Taste is bready and muddled - not at all crisp. Mouthfeel is pretty thick for the style. The beer is decent for and tasty for a low ABV beer.

I'm not sure why my review is different from some of the other reviews that describe the beer as crisp and dry. This was my first beer of the night, so there should have been no issue with my palate or palate fatigue.

On tap at Brewer's Art served in a Brewer's Art Chalice

A: Coppery amber with a thin although dense white head that lingered for the first several sips. After the initial sips there was a nice ring of foam that lingered for most of the remainder. Nice lacing initially but very little after the beer warmed some.

S: Loads of spicy rye tinged with other bready, biscuity malts. Hops are barely noticeable in the aroma.

T: Follows that of the smell, lots of peppery notes from the rye with some hops to help balance out the middle. The finish dries slightly with a nice after bite from the rye.

M: Light bodied with a fair amount of carbonation.

D: Fantastic beer and one that I would recommend to those that like rye in their beers.

On tap at Max's the other night.

The beer pours an amber, copper color with good head retention and lacing. The rye aroma is full and intense in this beer, but is nicely coupled with brown sugar and dry chocolate. Flavors on the palate replicate the nose for the most part, though the rye really dominates the flavor profile. There is a light sweetness to this beer and the beer has some surprising richness and weight to it. It comes across as at least medium bodied, which is surprising given the abv. Drinkability is pretty good, with alcohol well disguised. The rye, I thought, was a bit over the top for me, but nevertheless, was an easy to enjoy beer. Not bad at all.

This beer had a deep copper body with small tan head, it was served in a goblet. The was a hint of rye in the nose with a nice woody/grassy hop scent and sweet bready background. The taste was malty sweet and balanced with the rye and a bitter hop finish, nothing was out of place or dominant everything was balanced. It went really well with their sausage plate, espcially the sauer kraut. The mouthfeel was on the light side of medium with a slightly dry finish. This was a real drinkable beer, the alcohol level was low enought to have more than one and the dry finish was very refreshing.

A - A deep copper w/ light tan head that allows a nice collar of lace

S - Roasted and sweet bready aromas, Slightly yeasty rye scented

M - Light bodied, roasty, crisp and dry

T - Chocolate malt flavored core with rye teasing the tip of the tongue. Light bitterness and sweet candied finish. Ever so light woody hop hint

D - A very good rye ale - subtle and balanced, worth having with food (burger) or on its own. Blends of hop bitterness mesh well w/ medium roasted blend of 7 malts.
