Bottle courtesty of my friend Brian. I've liked every Brewer's Art offering I've had (especially Resurrection and Ozzy).
This one pours a murky gold. The smell was peppery and spicy, but the taste really carried a lot of holiday-ish character in terms of spicing. The finish was a bit herbal. Medium carbonation. A solid and tasty offering. The smell is what really blew us all away, it was very potent in terms of its spices. A good brew for the holiday season, but not sure exactly how often I would really drink this beer.

A corked and caged 750 mL bottle purchased at the Wine Source.
A: The BSPA is a coppery red color, more orange though than red. The fullness, including sediment, renders the ale opaque despite its golden glow. A sizeable head, seemingly par for the course with Brewer's Art bottles.
S: The ale reeks of exotic fruits. Saffron and cardamom lend an Indian air to the ale, sweet and strong. Underneath the spices lingers a subtle vinegary sourness. I stress subtle, because this isn't a sour bomb, just a by-product.
T: Well-, if not over-, spiced. Cardamom and saffron stand out, sweet and powdery but quite strong. The spices strike fast and strong, leaving a lasting flavor on the palate. A dash of peppery coriander only adds to the depth. Despite the thick foam on opening, carbonation has mellowed out, allowing the spices to linger. Pale malts and Belgian yeast add the requisite touches but the spices are what carry the day.
M: The mouthfeel is driven by the spices, so if Asian spices aren't your bag, pass on this. The saffron and cardamom are floral, mildly pungent, but very unique.
D: The alcohol never rears its head, allowing the spices and mild yeast to take charge. Interesting, although I'm not entirely sold on the drinkability.

Poured from a corked & caged 750 mL bottle into a Duvel tulip. Moderate hand. Barely legible stamp on the label: ?/23/2016 Best by?
A: Slightly hazy, deep golden yellow-orange body. Somewhat reminiscent of saffron. 2 fingers of sudsy, off-white head. Ok retention. Light lacing.
S: Belgian yeast with fruit-forward notes. Peach, apple, lighter banana. Faint cardamom, although I don't think I would have noticed it without being mentioned on the label. Candi sugar. Vanilla. Very nice overall, if not a lot distinct odors leaping out at me. Let's call it "well blended".
T: Fruity, slightly spicy yeast initially, quickly followed by malty sweetness. Noble-type hops emerge and it finishes mostly dry. Alcohol is present and slightly stronger than expected for 7.5% ABV. Some lingering fruit and mild cinnamon heat in the aftertaste.
M: Moderate to high carbonation with a moderate body. Certain creaminess to the effervescence, despite its volume.
O: Another tasty offering from Brewer's Art. Cardamom, cinnamon and saffron don't seem to overtly have much to do with the brew, but it's drinking quite nicely overall. Perhaps it's the spices' seamless integration, who knows?

Poured into a tulip.
4.0 A: Well, this is overcarbonated. First pour yielded one finger of beer and five of head. Unfortunately, the retention is really good, so getting a full glass was a huge investment of time. Anyway, lightly hazed light orange color. White head is thick and pillowy. As mentioned, great retention and big chunks of lacing.
4.0 S: Very nice interplay between the beer and the spices. Cardamon comes through the strongest with the cinnamon coming through in a complementary role. It's hard to tell how much saffron there is in there as the peppery earthiness could also come from the beer. Speaking of the beer, it's dry, but peachy fruity with a strong pepper aroma.
4.5 T: The taste is even better! A lot sweeter, spicier, and fruitier than the nose. Cardamon and cinnamon go wild, but are within reasonable levels. Saffron is a bit stronger (I think). Lots of peach, funky wild apple, and something almost like chard. Still a bit dry, but sweeter than the nose suggests. Lots of pepper spiciness and a pleasant yeastiness. Very good.
3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Too much carbonation, but I probably didn't need to say that. Reasonably creamy and smooth.
4.0 D: Good beer that would have been more enjoyable without dealing with the carbonation. Still, I can deal with the carbonation since the beer is this good.

Enjoyed this 750 ml Belgian bottled with cage beer out of a large snifter glass.
A: Pours a hazy golden hue with a hint of amber. Hugh, fizzy, white, 3-finger head fills the glass and dissipates into a nice wispy lace after leaving a partial trail.
S: Strong sweet caramel aroma is dominant throughout. Hints of fruits and esters in the background.
T: Very tart brew – a little bit more bitter than sweet. The spices (Cardamom, cinnamon, and saffron) come through in the middle. Finishes like it starts, with a tart bite.
M: Very strong and boozy. Medium body and high carbonation.
O: Excellent Belgian strong beer – interesting spices and aromas.

Nice fluffy head from the over the moon cap, it's a nice clear pale color, looks as it should.
Nice spices, not overpowering. Belgian yeast, nice nose.
Exceptional smooth pale ale, the spices are very nicely together, soft and smooth, a very balanced finish. Wonderful.
Decent mouth feel, a bit fizzy but full, an easy drinker, would have this again anytime, hard to find outside Baltimore.

Picked up a bottle at Max's today (draft selectoin is rather pitiful, in anticipation of 72 hours of Belgium).
The beer pours a solid gold color with very good head retention and lots of sticky lacing all around. The beer smells pretty good, but probably not as wonderful as I was hoping. I get a hint of clove, some honey, light butter and banana. It's attractive, but just isn't as intense as I was expecting. Flavor profile is pretty good, and is a bit more rich then I was expecting from the nose. Otherwise, the flavor profile replicates the nose, with a hint of bitterness in the finish. The beer has a moderate amount of sweetnes, but as others have noted, the sweetness is countered by a boatload of spice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to full, with an attractive, fairly long finish. Drinkability is pretty good, but there's a hint of heat from the alcohol in the finish that I'm not liking all that much. All things considered, a solid beer from Brewer's Art, but probably not one of my very favorites.

Had at the iron abbey. Beer was in a stemmed tulip.
The appearance was golden amber with a smaller beige head. The head fades rather quickly with minimal lacing. Medium carbonation could be seen through the haze.
The aroma was spicy, peppery , earthy, and yeasty. Cardamon and cinnamon come through nicely giving this beer a holiday pie aroma.
The taste finds plenty of spices malts and yeasty esters. I get mostly cinnamon in the taste with perhaps a touch of clove.
On the palate it drinks smooth sweet across the palate and finishes dry.
Overall it was a good beer with plenty of flavor and aroma.

Poured into chalice a very nice cloudy dark golden yellow color, very nice carbonation, HUGE three-finger plus thick creamy off-white head, with some very nice thick/creamy sticky lacing to follow. The nose is very nice also, sweet, malty, yeasty, with some nice cinnamon notes, bready, light pepper note. The taste is very nice, sweet, malty, very nice touch of yeast, some cinnamon, light pepper. Medium body. Very Drinkable, a very tasty BSPA. My first from this brewery and a tasty one at that. A: Poured into a Chimay chalice. Body is clear orangey-amber in color with a 2-finger khaki-colored, bubbly head that retains well. Lots of visible carbonation (i.e., bubbles).
S: Spices are the predominant scent. To be honest, I'm not sure I can distinguish what would be cardamom versus saffron, but I think that I'm smelling is saffron. Some floral hops noted more as it warms.
T: Some biscuity or crackery malt is there, but mainly this beer is about those spices. I think it's the saffron that lends it a sort of light and clean taste. As it warms the cinnamon comes out more. Some faint fruitiness but it finishes dry.
M: Call it lighter side of medium bodied, but with the high (and fairly fine) carbonation, it feels light and somewhat spritzy.
D: OK. I drank about 20 oz of this myself and went slow. Spice is perhaps too much for a lot of quaffing, but on the other hand the spice profile kept it feeling light and clean. Vacillating between giving it a 3.5 and 4.0 on drinkability. . . . OK, let's go 4.
Notes: went well with chicken kabobs from Hidden Cafe, which I've been told are spiced with sumac (?). . . .

A - Poured a dark golden color with a huge off white head that leaves lacing behind
S - All sorts of stuff going on here a bunch of spices and Belgian yeast scents fill your nose
T - This is one one complex beer the cinnamon and other spices create a great blend of flavors
M - This beer has a medium body with higher carbonation to it
D - I think this is one of my favorite Brewers Art beers so far its a little too easy to drink withs its abv and very good taste worth getting to try

750ml bottle that I recently received from johnmichaelsen. I've been dying to try this specialty brewer from my hometown (Baltimore, although I've lived in parts of PA as well, which is were this was apparently brewed), as Belgian beers are my favorite, and thought the spice bill sounded christmasy. I really get nostalgic that a portion of the proceeds go to the Baltimore youth soccer leagues in which I used to play. As I enjoy my xmas gift DVD of Hendrix at the Isle of Wright, I pour it into my large St. Feuillien goblet. Coup De Boule is a clear pale orange, very spritzy, with a huge, pillowy white head, which is slow to recede and leaves pretty heavy, sticky lace.
Smell is an assault of spices, hitting me from the coffee table where the first pour settles while I type the description from my couch, 2 ft from my nose! Cardamon mostly, then saffron and finally cinnamon, cane sugar and some phenols round it out. I'd probably guess there's ginger in here too if the spices weren't listed on the label. Smells pretty good, but has me worried about the actual taste.
Taste is muddled, but predominantly spicy, much to much for my taste. The cardamon is really overwhelming, must be what's giving it that ginger bite, obliterating the sugar I got from the nose. Very phenolic, a bit waxy like, with a bitter, biting finish that's probably all spices but perhaps some hops as well. Eh, not good. I should confess that these spicy blonde grand cru's are probably my least favorite 'artisian' Belgian style, but this one is particularly exaggerated for the worse. I'm not to impressed...
Mouthfeel is pretty nice, super creamy, but almost to the point of over-carbonated, and so dry and spicy it prickles the tongue. So much so that after a while the back of my throat feels like I've been smoking something harsh. Pretty light body though.
Drinkability isn't too hot, it's just so damn spicy. It has a digestibility to it, like ginger tea or something after a big meal, but not in the classic Belgian way of being dangerously quaffable. Hopefully not their better effort, I have a few more to try before I'll pass judgment on their brewing as a whole, but I won't personally bother with this again. At least the DVD rocks!

Got a few cases of this guy a few days ago in 750ml format!
Pours a clear gold color, bright gold! Thick pillowy white head hangs around for a while.
Smells of cardamom hit right at you that blend in with the saffron, fresh sweet grains and tart yeasts.
Tastes similar, citrusy and fresh with a yeasty tartness.
Full and fluffy mouthfeel with light but consistent carbonation.
Fantastic! Easy to drink, a solid beer!

Picked up an 750ml (caged and corked) bottle in a trade with Dawson's Liquor in Severna Park, MD and poured it into a tulip glass - thanks fellas!
A: Pours a hazy golden/amber hue, light effervescence, with a fluffy off-white head that sticks around for a while, leaving no lacing what so ever.
S: Trippy yeast smell, strong (almost overwhelming) spices, sweet grains, strong herbals, some bitter hop in there but really lacking presence in the mix, finishing kind of boozy.
T: Pretty much on point with the nose - too much going on, the hoppiness gets lost in the manage of herbal spicy weirdness.
M: Medium-bodied, but definitely on the lighter side of it, over-carbonated and distracting, no bitterness from the hop at all.
D: Not very drinkable. Just a weird ale overall and not very enjoyable in my opinion.

Served from a 750ml bottle into a Corsendonk tulip glass at the appropriate temperature (01/15/10).
A: Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow, with three fingers of a white head that seems to stick around forever.
S: Belgian spice and yeast dominate the bouquet along with some citrus tones.
T: Interesting taste of Belgian spice and yeast with some lemon zest, orange peel, coriander, ginger, and cinnamon. There is also a slight metallic characteristic as well.
M: Light to medium-bodied with high carbonation.
D: Quite easy to drink, but lacking in flavor and aroma.
Overall this is by no means a bad Belgian Strong Pale Ale, but it's not one of my favorites and not the best effort from Brewer's Art. Worth a Look.
