Notes/Commercial Description:
During the fermentation of the first batch of this
Abbey-style dubbel, the yeast «died» and was
«resurrected» by brewer Chris Cashell. Made with five types of barley malt and lots of sugar, this beer is quite strong and flavorful, without being too sweet. 7%abv

Love the cans! Pours into my glass a deep blood red bordering on black that bursts out when held to the light. Two fingers of creamy, bubbly khaki head atop the brew that leaves sticky lacing patches down the glass. Sweet malts with chocolate covered raisins and a spicy yeast undertone. Dark fruits mingle throughout as well.

First sip brings somewhat sweet malts upfront with a mix of cocoa, raisins, dark fruits and a touch of honey. Flows down with a kiss of spicy yeast. Clean finish, pretty tasty!

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with rather punchy carbonation that explodes as it flows down. I have to say, a Dubbel in a can is pretty awesome and this is an enjoyable brew. Glad I had the chance to sample it, thanks smokeypeat!

Got this beer in a trade as an extra. Thanks to my many trading partners.

Poured a nice dark amber with a very small off white head and gentle lacing

Very sweet to the smell with a touch of rasion.

Taste not very bad on the fromt but an odd musty after tast. Thought about pouring down drain but powered through

Mouthfeel was thin

Would not seek or even buy this beer.

I recently had this beer on tap at Max's in Fells Point. It's a very impressive ale and extremely drinkable despite the alcohol (warning!). I found it somewhat similar to the S.N. Celebration in body and impact although the hop content is far less. Stylistically, it's hard to place-Belgian in origen but very Americanized.

on tap, poured a solid dark brown, medium bubble head of about 1/2 inch and left some basic lacing. Malty, nutty nose. Malty brew, medium bodied and average carbonation. Not sure why this is characterized as a Dubbel, what I tasted was more of a brown ale with the slightest touch of Belgian spicing. In any event this is a pleasant brown brew. Smooth and tasty

A – Dark icetea amber body. Bone-white head is creamy, with great retention and solid lace.

S – On the sweeter side with caramel and malt. Kiss of grassy hops, and a light booze as it warms.

T – Stellar balance. The profile opens with smooth malt coupled with a great, green, herbal hop bitterness. The hops stand out with fantastic flavor definition, but manage to avoid overpowering the rest of the profile and pulling the beer into IPA territory. The center is loaded with fruit: orange and plums. Caramel and a rolling herbal bitterness balance a net-dry finish.

M – Super smooth, medium/full body.

O – Classifying this beer as a Double doesn't do it justice. It's unquestionably off-style for a double, but it's unquestionably delicious. I'd be much happier calling it an "American Double"; a lighter, hoppier version of it's Belgian cousin - and to that end I'd argue that it was brewed perfectly to-style lol. No matter how you label it though, it's a fantastic brew. This one took me totally by surprise and I was quite happily blown away.
