Dubbel |  7.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
During the fermentation of the first batch of this
Abbey-style dubbel, the yeast «died» and was
«resurrected» by brewer Chris Cashell. Made with five types of barley malt and lots of sugar, this beer is quite strong and flavorful, without being too sweet. 7%abv

A: Pours a dark amber color with an off white one finger head that dissipates to a sudsy top.
S: Dark fruits, yeast, and malts.
T: Very sweet, caramel, sugar, dark fruits, and a metallic taste. Finishes with yeast.
M: Medium body, medium carbonation, and sticky on the palate.
O: Okay for the style.

Had it at Brewer's Art. From notes.

A - Reddy brown pour with a cloudy body. One finger of beige head left a little lace and a film of retention.

S - Sugar, dark fruit, yeast.

T - A bit of spice, dark fruit, yeast, nice sweetness to it.

M - Nice mild and pleasant carbonation, medium to full body and a sweet then dry finish.

O/D - A decent Dubbel. Complex and hits the requisite flavour notes, but doesn't go to crazy. Nice.

look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

A: slightly hazy, tawny in color.... huge, rocky, cottony, open, off-white foam - keeps a decent mound of suds in the middle as the liquid recedes, minimal lace.... miniscule specks of some kind of sediment dotting the expanse of the liquid

S: (not knowing from the label and elsewhere) this smells like a dubbel or maybe a Scotch ale.... it's pretty wonderful - cinnamon, allspice, dark plum, prune.... high L crystal malt or candi sugar plays a huge part in the aromas as well.... fantastic yeast aromatics... little bit of clove and bubblegum

T: spices, toasted dark grains in the finish... complex shift in flavors throughout the first few sips.... spicy phenols and booze dominate, but the round, fruity malt/sugar does balance enough, serving as a foundation.... not as much fruit flavor as aromas suggest - the overall taste leans more toward dark, caramelized malts and spicy booze

M: somewhat silken, slight-medium body.... soft-sudsy wash, moderate residual gas.... bit of a dew-like sticky film.... mostly dry, hardly parching

O: one of the more well-made domestic dubbels I've had -
