I like going to the Brewer's Art when I'm in the area for dinner or exploring the cultural heart of Mt. Vernon. The place has two floors which are distinctly different from one another. The main entrance (the '1st floor') is somewhat upscale with high ceilings, nice wooden fixtures, a somewhat fancy dining area, and a small adjacent lounge with a few comfortable sofa chairs etc. Downstairs is dark, more crowed and more of a 'bar-like" feel. In fact the clientele is quite distinct between upstairs and downstairs.
As for the beer, well you can't go wrong there. What's upstairs is obviously available downstairs. They have about 4 regulars (Resurrection, Ozzy, Proletary, House Pale) and one or two seasonals. Tiny Tim being one of the best IMO. All are Belgian style beers made on premise. Prices are phenomenal (under $4 for pretty much every draft). Growlers are available for $10 too. Sweet I say!!! Service is for the most part great even when it gets busy. They also have an extensive bottle list if you want to explore other Belgians, American micros, German pilsners, British ales etc.
The food is probably the only pricey thing there. I have dinned in the restaurant but prefer to just get some fries or eat dinner elsewhere if I have dinner plans. My suggestion is have dinner at one of the nearby restaurants (and there are tons) and come afterwards for drinks.
