I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. Just a stone's throw away from where I used to live this place has been frequented quite often by myself. It's basically a nice, kind of dark, kind of loud jazz hangout. Really good music, mid 20's crowd, decent michigan micro selection. A few good taps, lots of bottles, basically nothing available from outside of Michigan except for the macros. There's a couple of pool tables in the back and a little dance floor up by the stage and then some tables to sit around and talk. Cool place to chill, hang out, and listen to good music. Oh, and yesterdog is right next to it, great for the post-bar hot dogs we all have ;-)

This place is located in a culturally diverse area just off the cobble stone of Wealthy Street. I say culturally diverse because I was approached by two pan handlers during a 50 yard walk to the door. One was carrying a gas can and had no teeth. The other was a straight gangsta. Ahh, I love that stuff. The bar itself was loaded down with people who were probably early twenties types. I saw clothing styles that I knew nothing about which further reminded me that I am getting old and losing touch with the hipster trends. They were surpised to see me in my birthday suit. Kidding. The place had a small stage up front with a small clearing for people to dance. The bar was a long stretcher with three tap stations interspersed if I remember correctly. I sat by a picture of Satchmo with his huge cheeks puffed out. Sort of a jazz feel, but the band we saw there was a rock-n-roll outfit. There were a few billiard tables in the back. The bathroom was downstairs and diplayed some authentic graffiti in the stall. I love that stuff. Everyone seemed cool and mellow there. I think having the restroom downstairs is a bit dangerous though. Stairs and drunks don't always mix.

The service was good. I never had to wait to score another glass. Selection was straight. I downed some Two Hearted, Sparkling Ale, Mad Hatter, and Atwater porter. The beers were $4 I think. Not a bad selection. Alright place. Not really my usual taste in a night spot, simply because I like to be able to hear people speak. My own fault for going there when a band was playing. The beers were ice cold too, but that seems like par for the course.
