American Dark Wheat Beer
Learn more about the American Dark Wheat Beer style of beer.
An Americanized version of a Dunkelweizen, these beers can range in color from garnet or deep amber to ruby brown. Often cloudy with long-lasting heads, this style tends to be light- to medium-bodied with a high level of carbonation. Hop character might be low or moderately high with some fruitiness from ale fermentation, though most examples use a fairly neutral ale yeast, resulting in a clean fermentation with little to no diacetyl. Flavors of caramel and toasted malts might be present too, just don't expect German Weizen flavors and aromas of banana esters and clove-like phenols.
