Didn't read the whole thread, and sorry if I sound rude, but have you had any real whales. Tonight I had King Henry, CBS and Fou foune (yeah, I know, not true white whales and humblebrag) but I'd trade everything in my cellar if it could be replaced by those beers! They're worth the hunt but that doesn't mean there aren't real solid beers available for much less hassle / cost. It is nice to be able to grab something special though for after an exam or something...

That's a flick in the nads for those of us outside of your area. Geeks are climbing over each other at specialty bottle stores while in your area you can buy it at the local drug store. I'm confused with Goose Island by not controlling distribution more and shame on them for allowing it to be sold in a drug store and shame on me for being stupid enough to pay such a ridiculous price for a bottle when I'm lucky enough to find one and even then it's a limited number of "bottle"/person. (This isn't a slam on your statement either, just a general disgust for Goose Island when they're allowing product to be put on a drug store shelf for John Q Public.)

We covered this early on in the thread. In fact, King Henry was an example I had used as something I've been searching for and am giving up on, at which point Taxman was kind enough to invite me to have some with him.

Why should it be up to goose I sland to make sure that their beer only ends up in the hands of their snobbiest customers?

Never had a Whale besides Darkness if you call it that.

Arguing on BA is like farting in a snowmobile suit.... You are only hurting yourself.

I don't get too many whales around my way nor do I really seek them out - via trade (never have) or otherwise. I like the excitement of a limited release/limited supply arriving at one of my regular shops and that's what I consider a whale from my perspective. I like the feeling when they say something is available and I don't rush out and get it, but when I pop into the shop a couple of days later and bottles remain. Happened to me recently with BA Bigfoot and Sucaba.

I'd never be able to land it why my trade ammo either and a local BA was gracious enough to crack a bottle with me last night... BA is an awesome place!

I would imagine that most BAs eventually reach a point where they are tired of trying everything under the sun, and racing around like a madman to snag every limited release, and instead simply sit back, stock their cellar and fridge with their favorites, and maybe try to score something limited if they really like it and/or doing so is not too much trouble. It's hard to be a discerning customer when you first acquire the desire and means to try so many different craft beers. I think it takes a while of chasing, and experiencing many letdowns and all of the wasted time and money that comes with trying hundreds of different and sometimes frightfully expensive beers, to really appreciate how awesome it is to have such a wide assortment of great, relatively inexpensive beer that is readily accessible to people in most parts of the country.

It has nothing to do with snobbery and everything to do with some bottles ending up as drain pours because an unsuspecting customer doesn't know what they're buying. Granted, the price would possibly cause alot of people to pass it up. You're right, it's not my business, I just find it annoying that's all. I'll shut up and go back to my glass of BCBS.

Bingo. When I saw it at walgreens, it was going for $28. I don't know of a single person who'd pay that much unwittingly. I don't think this is a common site anyway, I think that particular walgreens had a BA in charge of the liquor department because they had a lot of other interesting stuff; Brooklyn Black Chocolate off the top of my head.
