And we care about this why? Exactly why are we even talking about this? You have to come to terms with the 'other' side of this industry and it's bigger than what we seek out. My wife's friend always buy bud lime or whatever it is, but you don't see me worried about it lol. The way I are it is the more people who buy crap the more good stuff I can get my hands on. I'm not worried about the craft beer industry anymore. There's enough of us spending money to keep the quality stuff on the shelves and I'm in a small populated area. The only time Bud should be mentioned on this site is when discussing Goose Island, and that's only if they leave the product quality alone. Everything that company has achieved has been on the shoulders of someone else's hard work. Budweiser doesn't make Goose Island good. It was a few men from Chicago and the people of Chicago. Now AB benefits from their long history and rep? Anyone who claims to love craft beer and give AB any sort of props need to reconsider. I'm just sick of seeing the name Bud/Budweiser/InBev/AB so on.

I think you may be more interested in the Craft Beer Advocate website.

This is "Beer Advocate" not "Only beer snobs love Advocate". Whether you love or hate a brew/brewery it's fair game for discussion on this site. If you don't want to talk about it don't click on the thread. If you don't even want to see the name, disconnect your computer from the Internet and stay at home surrounded by only the beer you think is worthy of encountering.

Sadly, I'm not sure Lennon would win that fight. It would be interesting to see for sure.

I had some of the lime-a-ritas when they first came out. I remember thinking it was basically adult lime-ade. If you expect it to be beer, you'll be disappointed. Same for expecting margarita. As with most things in life, if you have no expectations going in, you can't be disappointed.

Your math is probably OK, but I agree your thinking is maybe a bit fuzzy on this one.

    "like only one beer?"

I guess that depends. A bottle or can of Bud select 55 clocks in at 2.4%, while the end of history clocks in at 55% abv. Both come in a 12 ounce container (end of history comes in a 12 ounce dead squirrel), but I think that's fairly irrelevant in terms of the effect the two beers will have on you.

It's the same with the new strawberry flavored swill from AB-InBev. The fact it somes in an 8 ounce serving size doesn't make it any less potent. Maybe that's the suggested serving size, but of course that doesn't mean consumers are going to stop at just one or drink the "beer" any more slowly.

That being said, I think I get the point you're trying to make, and I tend to agree. It seems a bit odd that anyone would suggest there's anything particularly extreme about an 8% beer, when craft breweries are making IPA's, DIPA's, barleywines and DIPA's that routinely exceed that abv. level, and often by quite a lot. Whether it's this new swill from AB-InBev or PtE from RR. If you knock back one or two 8 ounce serviings, that's probably not going to be much of a problem (unless you're topping off an already fairly lengthy evening of drinking). However, if you knock back 10 or 15 of those 8 ounce servings, I think the results are fairly predictable.

I heard an advertisement for this broadcasted over the loud speaker at the grocery store this morning. I can't imagine a strawberry margherita flavored malt beverage tasting good.

In other news why have K-cups risen 15%?!

This is why I have almost no enthusiasm for the future of mankind. Cockroaches wouldn't touch this swill.

Not that I expect any sort of integrity from the folks who make and market this swill at AB, but I would be curious as to why they even include the word "lite" on the label. At 8% per abv., and a whopping 200 calories per 8 ounce serving, there's nothing "lite" about this beer. Even if bud lite is the base beer for this swill, there's nothing lite whatsoever about the end product.

I am 99.99% sure I know why the word “Light” is used in the naming/packaging of the –rita beverages: because it sells!

The fact that an 8 ounce beverage has 200 calories is not going to stop the AB InBev marketing folks from attempting to sell a product.

    Cheers!

P.S. FWIW, Bud Light Platinum has 137 calories vs. 'regular' Bud Light having 110 calories.

I'm very impressed. It has taken 20+ years for 3 different craft brewers to crack 500,000 barrels (Boston Beer Company, Sierra Nevada and New Belgium). They produce dozens of beers each to get to these numbers.

It takes 8 months for ABInBev to produce and sell 500,000 barrels of a single-label, offshoot beer.

Of that, I have no doubt.

If Sam C. were making beer at InBev-AB, I'm sure the CEO would insist that he either rebrand the 120 IPA as a light beer, or insist that Sam make a "lite" variant.

As your example of bud light platinum indicates I think, there is pretty much no rhyme or reason for why AB designates a beer as a "light" product, other than the effect the expression will (hopefully) have on buyers.

Apparently, you can skirt such issues with labeling as long as you mispell the word (lite instead of light)...
