We are drowning in imports. Not cool.

we are also drowning in well made local stuff.... the Aus Beer World has changed a lot in 24-36 months as I see it... may the best and strongest survive....

Would it be a tragedy if Blue Moon kicked White Rabbit off the shelves?

Blue Moon. About as craft beer as my dirty socks.

Man oh man oh man oh man, I feel bad that you consider anything from AC Golden as "good and very legit craft". Is there not a good craft brewer in Australia yet?

Went to a tasting 2 years ago in Denver and tried some of his pilot stuff. Was quite good. I admit I am a CO homer though as would rather have Odell or Great Divide.

There is some good craft here. Just in a lot of ways very different than the US scene. Very different market that is getting into craft down here. Still in the pale ale phase

Yeah, yeah, my friend moved to the Denver area a year ago and still can't stop raving about the breweries. Odell is at the top of my list when I visit, along with Crooked Stave.

Anything on par with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale?

Not sure I agree. While I enjoy our local stuff, haven't seen a new brewery in the Perth metro for at least 5 years (more like 8, Gage Roads may have been the last one). Imports have gone up ten fold in that time. Not sure how the East coast is faring in brewery growth, maybe there are "West Australian only" factors involved.. Anyone got any stats? I know Melbourne's got a few new ones.

Hey Foles aren't you getting excited for the Northbridge Craft Brewery?

Can't wait for all of their "American style Lagers"!

Yep I'm running out of room in my fridges to fit it all :slight_frown:

The Coors range will be just more beers to find a spot for.

On a sidenote, I had Blue Moon on tap in London and thought it tasted horrible.

Blue Moon has been over here in the West for a bit - reasonably priced. Molson also, but not so reasonable.
Am looking forward to the Coor Original for nostalgiac reasons!

Funny what a still reasonably high dollar does to the senses. Dont complain, the last foray sent us Dr Chuck Hahn. On the whole he has done good, played hard.

Feral Hop Hog and Little Creatures Pale Ale are best examples.
Nobody on here, or in this forum will disagree that Australia is quite behind the US in terms of brewing and creativity. A lot of the issue is the relativity newness of craft here and the second is some of the laws (taxiation of beer) that have to be followed down here. Australian Brewers have come a long way in the 5 years I have been here.

As an American who moved to Sydney almost a year and a half ago, I've been pleasantly surprised with all of the Aussie craft breweries and quality beer I've come across. Murrays, 4 Pines, Mountain Goat, Lord Nelson, Matilda Bay, Coopers (actually found the Pale Ale in my home state of PA and have been drinking it for years before I moved here), Six String, etc etc.
There really is a ton of good stuff here.

Please stick to local craft beers. I can't reiterate this enough. Only American craft import in Australia worth noting is Brooklyn Brewery, but they won't even distro Black Ops, which is a shame.

What makes Brooklyn so special compared to the rest?

Yeah I'm intrigued by this as well.

Especially as your profile says you live in California. What is wrong with Sierra Nevada, to quote just one example?
