I am coming to KC this weekend and was hoping to go to the Boulevard Brewery and check it out and try some beers there. Is there a tasting room that is open to the public? The website references a tasting room but only in reference to the end of tours...any insight is greatly appreciated!

Also - are there other great beer spots I should be checking out? We are running a half marathon on Saturday AM and planning on going to OK Joe's at least once and Fiorella's Jack Stack as well...I want to make sure I am not missing anything super awesome!

Can't vouch for Boulevard but make sure you leave plenty of time for Joe's. I went at 2:00 on a weekend last summer and still ended up waiting almost a hour.

Boulevard doesn't have a tasting room open to the public. Samples are available at the end of the tour only.

Thank you for the heads up - are there other places you would suggest visiting?

    Thanks again!

We are planning on going at 11am for lunch on Saturday...I am guessing there will be a line but I know it is worth it...

As far as bars I like The Bier Station a lot. They have a good tap list and sell bottles to go. Also would recommend The Foundry/McCoys.

Flying Saucer usually has a good selection as well in the Power & Light District.

The Boulevard tour takes an hour and is actually pretty well done, but yeah, you only get 4 free samples at the end. They usually have interesting stuff to try though, could be a good way to start the day.

Also Bridger's Bottle shop opened in Westport as well. So four beer stops in one neighborhood. I've haven't been there yet though.

Good to know - anything in the KC area that is worth seeking out that we might not know about/get in the NW? Thanks!

Make sure you check out our tour page before you head to the brewery. If you're planning on a tour Fri-Sun, you'll want to arrive early. We start passing out tickets for the day's tours at 10am and there will definitely a line.

Thanks for the heads up! We get in Friday night and have a race to run Saturday morning so we probably wouldnt be able to make it up there until around noon or so - sounds like that might be too late to get a ticket for a tour?

This is just speculation, of course, but I bet that would be too late to grab a ticket. If possible, you could send someone down to grab tickets for you.

Plenty of good places for good beers in the Westport area. Beer kitchen, foundry/mccoys, green room, etc.

Local breweries/beers you should give a try:
Obviously some boulevard, the grain storm black rye IPA should be on tap just about everywhere.
    Schlafly from St. Louis
    Mother's brewing from Springfield, MO
Tallgrass out of Manhattan, KS. The pub ale is a personal favorite of mine.
    Perennial from St. Louis

KC has two pretty new breweries, KC Bier Co and Martin City Brewing Co is now brewing their own stuff. Martin city is in the southern part of the metro area but well worth the drive. Close to Martin City is Lukas liquors, near 135th and stateline, probably one of the better selections in the city for bottles. Hope you enjoy the town, let us know how our beers fair to all of you fancy west coasters haha.

Also, a little trick for Oklahoma Joes, if you don't really care about sitting in the restaurant and eating, call ahead for carry out. They usually have the food ready in fifteen minutes and you don't have to wait in line for an hour. You walk in to a different side of the counter, pay, walk out and laugh at all those waiting in line.

I'd add 4 Hands and 2nd Shift from St. Louis to the above list. If you can find a bottle of 2nd Shift Katy, that stuff is fantastic. Also Nebraska Brewing has some nice, but expensive big bottles.

Dang - that is too bad. Unfortunately I dont know anyone in KC that I could ask to do that...thanks though! I am just going to have to settle for drinking lots of BLVD beers on tap over the weekend I guess...

    Cheers!

Can you get burnt ends in a carry out order? My wife has never been so I think we will probably try to sit for our first visit of the trip but if we go back a second time that will definitely come in handy! Thanks for the heads up. And thanks for all those breweries - I will have to check at least one or two out! Do any have a particularly good tasting room/brew pub?

Martin city has a neat place, they pretty much have two different bars in two separate buildings. One building has just the beers that they brew, they also make pizzas from their stone ovens here. There is a patio separating the bar from the brewhouse with a huge garage door that opens up into the brewhouse. At the other building, they have probably twenty different taps and even more bottles. Both have great food and are neat buildings. Here is a link to their site, http://martincitybrewingcompany.com .

I have yet to visit KC Bier Co but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be close to a traditional German brewhouse/
Biergarten. Only brewing German style beers, they import as much as they can from Germany to brew with. They have the long communal tables and serve sausage and pretzels. http://kcbier.com

And as long as they have burnt ends available you should be able to get them for carry out. They may have changed how they used to do it but they only had burnt ends on certain days. Pretty sure it was like Thursday through Saturday were your best chances to get them.
