Never mind, I read your post wrong, I thought you were talking about TW not BevMo, I know nothing about BevMo. At TW they card almost everyone, just to be safe.

Can't really remember every one I saw but a buncha other Hopworks beers besides the mainstays, sours like Liefman's (which I've only seen at Enoteca) and some other sours I'm sure I've never seen anywhere around here, Pelican, Schooner Exact I think, Moylan's. There were more.

Total Wine is privately held; it does not sell stock, nor have partners, which is what you have to do to have investors.

And no, I don't work for TW nor am I related to the owners. I looked up the info on that internets thingy.

I wouldn't know if the employees know anything about their beer, because I don't ask. I know what I want, generally, before I walk through the door.

I do agree about the singles aisle being a bit of a pain, now that it's now that it's organized by style and not by brewery. It was much easier to find exactly what you were looking for before they changed it some years back.

Not about what I want but what is in stock, when are they getting a certain brand and/or if they can get such and such.

My company doesn't sell stock either. You still have a board to answer to when you get that large.

A board isn't the same thing as investors.

But they are making decisions based solely on a bottom line and not on what they think is best for the customers. Thats how I define corporate. They're all about the bottom line ($). I know all businesses need to make money but smaller businesses can also make decisions based on what they think is best for their product and their customers, not just their wallets.

Total wine definitely has great selection craft beer and more main stream stuff, even some limited releases. Prices are some of the cheapest you can find, and some of their closeout sales are unreal.
However that being said, nobody here knows anything about beer ( at least at the Redondo Beach location). They have like 5-6 wine specialist, but none of them or anybody stocking the beer shelfs could answer any questions about the beer department. definitely got that, I don't know I just work here vibe, common with most large big box stores.

Love that place. Got one a block away. I regularly go there on shipment days. I usually get a couple Plinys a month as my best buys there. They have fun wine tastings on weekends to for $.10. haha

My favorite part is probably that everyone that works there is really friendly and knows there stuff. You can tell many of them eat, sleep, and breathe wine, and a few are BA's to.

I'm happy they've come to North Texas (Dallas/Ft. Worth). They've forced other liquor stores to lower their prices from the ridiculously high prices they were charging for common beverages. I'm still going to support local as much as possible and the little store owners, but I do think that by them coming in, even the big Texas chain Spec's has been forced to lower their 'low' prices to compete. Overall, the impact has been good for the consumer.

When I lived in FL, total wine was MORE expensive than the other stores I went to, often significantly so. I'm surprised to here at its cheaper for you.

Yep - nothing like paying a local mom and pop $14 for a bomber that costs $7 at BevMo. That local mom and pop is really looking out for me....

meanwhile - BevMo is employing 27 workers while mom and pop is employing 1.

As you can imagine every situation is different, my local mom and pop shop is within $1-$2 of Total Wine. If they were pricing things crazy and trying to stay in business off of my wallet then I'd be right there with you. And does your local shop really just have 1 employee? I'd hate to be that guy/gal working open to close every day.

Your definition of "corporate" seems to keep changing. And how do you know that
    a) TW's decisions are based "solely on the bottom line" and
    B) Mom & Pop stores don't do that.

BTW, if I were you, I'd hope that the local Mom & Pop makes decisions based on their bottom line or you won't have them to shop in at some point.

Me too. I paid 14 at Bestway and 16.50 at TW.

Owner isn't the employee. 1 employee = business owner and 1 employee.

No my definition of corporate has stayed consistent. And I know the bottom line is important, but my favorite local shop doesn't make their decisions SOLELY on it. They make decisions based on what customers want and need. They know their customers by name and treat them like friends. Total Wine can't even seem to keep an employee for a week so they don't have time to even know what aisle the beer is on. TW's decisions have to be based solely on the bottom line because (as I have said repeatedly) they have to make their board happy and their board doesn't give two shits and a fuck about craft beer except as a money making tool.
