It’s that particular time of year when snow accumulates and bitter cold sets in. Here’s hoping we’ve found a cure for those long nights and increasingly shorter days. Up for grabs is a gift basket of beer designed to help fight the frigid creep. Here’s how it all works:

    1. Enter the raffle. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $25. No limit.

    2. The raffle will run from 12/01/12 – 12/21/12 (pending the world doesn’t end). A winner will be drawn before the open of business on 12/22/2012.

    3. That’s it. Simple.

The basket in question contains the following beer:

    - Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer
    - 2011 Deschutes The Abyss
    - 2011 Firestone Walker Parabola
    - New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red
    - New Glarus Raspberry Tart
    - 2012New Glarus Cherry Stout
    - 2011 Surly Smoke
    - Sierra Nevada/Dogfish Head Life and Limb (Batch 2)
    - 2008 Stone Imperial Russian Stout
    - 2010 Brooklyn Black Ops
    - 2010 Bells Expedition Stout
    - 2011Bells Cherry Stout
    - 2010 Founders Backwoods Bastard
    - 2012 Cigar City Marshal Zhukov

*We may include other beer in the final basket, but this is the minimum up for grabs*

To make the whole deal even sweeter, all proceeds will be donated to Child’s Play (childsplaycharity.org), a charity that helps supply hospitals with toys, video games, stuffed animals, and other items that help kids either recover or get through their experience. Your donations will be used to help Boston Children’s Hospital through Child’s Play.

*Addendum: Apparently I can't actually give this away, so the winner will have to pay the lofty price of $1. I learned the logistics this evening and apologize for the minor inconvenience.*

CBC partnering with Child's Play is pretty awesome. But since they can't give away the beer, that means they are technically selling the beer...and a bunch of those beers aren't distributed here. So... yeah, I'm not sure how that's legal. But this is pretty sweet regardless.

Can the raffle just be for the basket?

This is so small potatoes and under the radar though, and for a charitable cause. Only the world's biggest dick would narc on them for this...

Didn't Kappy's try to do something like the with CBS or something, only to pull it due to legal issues? Or did it actually happen?

I don't think it is CBC partnering with the charity, it is a kind BA who was willing to put up beers from his own cellar and do the leg work and find a local bottle shop through which to sell the raffle tickets and chose a charity to donate to. But hats off to CBC for saying yes

They just made a printable coupon for the right to buy one bottle of KBS for like 7-8 bucks I think...

Real interesting to see this posted because as I was reading I thought to myself "if this was for charity, I'd donate a bottle to drive up the money".....hmm....lots of interesting ideas floating through my head right now. No reason one couldn't do this sort of thing without a business involved and it would be easy to do among BAs and donate the money..

Slightly OT, maybe, but it looks like MA law only contains provisions for the sale of wine for charity (and even then, off-premises sales are auction-only, it seems). Maybe while the MCBG is putting beer on equal footing with wine at farmers markets they can work on doing it in the rest of the MA alcohol laws....

This. We're hoping it all balances out, but I'll be in constant contact with Suzanne and Kate and any issues that come up will be put in this thread to keep people informed.

If we do end up having to pull the physical basket for legal reasons I'll probably set up an online raffle of sorts and ship the beer accordingly.

I'm still hoping to keep it local so I can share the love with a local beer lover who can't generally access most of this stuff.

This is for charity, I'm just saying give the credit to the BA not CBC. And i think it's easier to do through a retail shop where people can see the raffle basket. not only will you get some people to buy tickets who may not be on beeradvocate, but it saves the generous guy donating the bottles the cost and hastle of shipping if he opens up to the whole ba community. I know i am personally more likely to buy a raffle ticket in person than through a forum.

Just got the check in from Craft Beer Cellar. Managed to raise a solid $538. Thanks for all the input and for all of those who might have supported.
