Exactly, plus there isn't really anywhere in Austin that one can easily sell something like this without everyone knowing, even on a small scale.

Regardless, if I indeed have missed this then I'll put up a 2009 bottle for a 2012.

Anyone know the story of the Whip In name? I always mean to ask Dipak. I think it's a defunct franchise. I don't think the Flower Mound location (which is a straight up gas station w/ lots of craft beer) is related to the South Austin (which is a beer store, bar, music venue, bier garten, limited grocery and indian restaurant... with no gas). Almost no convenience store items in Whip In nowadays... I remember back when that was more than half the store.. now it's probably 5%, lol.

Same logo on both places... IMMENSELY different in every other way except craft beer.

Take it on face value, but I was told today by a source I trust that its still expected in Austin.

Yep. I talked to our lovely Deschutes rep today and the Austin allotment never got shipped. It wasn't Capital's fault. It will most likely get here at the end of the month, about the same time as Abyss. There will not be very much Abyss, and even less Dissident. Happy hunting.

    Hope springs eternal.

Not to hijack a Dissident thread but any word on Abyss in Houston?

As I understand it FTW will get roughly double the amount of Abyss as Dissident. Total, CM, Spec's, and Kings are all expecting a case. Of course this is all hearsay but I have pretty good relationships with people at all 4 now and they independantly confirmed similar stories.

I thought Abyss was good to great (I've only had fresh '10 and '11), but in comparision to Marshal Z (again only fresh) it was rather bland.

You do not drink Abyss fresh... IMO. A year or two does wonders to this beer.

I dunno, I still find it to be a thoroughly enjoyable proposition while fresh.

'10 was nice fresh, incredible with a year. '11 was terrible fresh to me, incredible with a year.

Abyss is nice, but not worth all of this crap. I'll buy one if it falls in my lap, but I won't break my neck over it.

It was a shelf beer last year and now uber super duper limited?

I guess they would rather send it to their new distro areas than to keep the same quantities in their old ones. You shouldn't screw existing customers to get new ones.

As mentioned before, I'm glad to just ignore them completely if they don't want to make Texas worth their time.

I'm sure this will be a Specs Smith St special in Houston. If you don't work in the loop you won't get any.

We have extremely different tastes then. This is my favorite barrel aged stout we get in Texas. Have you only had it fresh?

How many BA Stouts do we get? Uncle Jacobs, Abyss (I never picked up any barrel in the taste at all), BB #1

I had the 10 with about a year on it and the 11 with about 2-3 months. I've also had it on tap. I'll see how my 11 in the cellar does soon.

Maybe the best we get in Texas, but it sounds like we will BARELY get shit for it this year. I'll just trade for the beers I want. Takes less time and money.

And yeah, I'm grumpy. I'm sick of Texas (especially Houston) getting treated like a redheaded stepchild. If I can't find their product on the shelf, I'll live. Most of it is pedestrian at best.

We also get the foul Barrel Aged Dogfather. I hope time helps that beer, but it tasted like a barrel aged ashtray when I opened one earlier in the year.

But Uncle Jacobs, how I love you!!! That sat on the shelf for at least a week. I still wish I had bought more.

We're all forgetting JK Whiskey Barrel Rodeo. Uncle Jacobs is badass and I think the '10 Abyss is right there with it.

That's as hard to get as Abyss will be this year. lol

I do realize that I'm pretty lucky to get the stuff I do, but I have to work extremely hard to do so. I think it's a bit of a gyp that in Houston most of the hard to find stuff never leaves the downtown/midtown area.

I can only imagine the horror for DWF folks.

Texas is a huge market and it's really not very bright to treat them poorly. I think eventually more people will feel like this and not support breweries that don't really care for us.

I can't imagine that they didn't make the biggest batch of Abyss they've ever made and yet we will still get less than ever. That really stings when the demand is higher than ever.

Until JK confirms it, Whiskey Rodeo is just a one off and shouldn't count. I guess BA Buried Hatchet would make the list (although did it ever make it to canning or just keg/cask?), although again that might only be a one time thing.
